KSRM to offer
Specialization in Rural Livelihood Promotion
India’s newly launched National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) with credit support from the International Development Association (IDA) – the World Bank’s concessionary lending arm, constitutes a significant paradigm shift in the approach to the promotion of livelihoods of the rural poor. NRLM has been launched in the 12 states, namely Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal have the highest number of absolute poor and account for almost 85 percent of India’s rural poor.
One of the key premises of the Mission is that outcomes are critically linked to the quality and professional competence of dedicated support structures at National as well as State Level and their staff. All these stated core beliefs and values emphasize the need for quality human resources under NRLM to achieve its ambitious mission.
KSRM having realized this need becomes “the first business school in the country becomes has decided to offer
career orientated specialization in Rural Livelihood Promotion as a part of its uniquely designed MBA (Rural Management / Agribusiness Management) programme” announced Prof.L.K.Vaswani, Director KSRM. Around 30 students will be admitted in batch 2012-14. The students will be attached to active SRLMs for their all field segments for nearly 9 months and also opt for optional courses on Rural Livelihoods. He said that KSRM
has been involved through its students and faculty with 5 State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs), since its inception in 2006. The World Bank-supported rural livelihoods initiatives was piloted in 5 states Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu since year 2000. The 11 students of 2010-12 batch were placed with Bihar and AP SRLMs.
This new initiative of KSRM will offer exciting learning opportunities and career avenues for young generation of agribusiness/rural mangers who have the passion to change the face of rural economy.
