National Residential Workshop on Advances in Social and Behavioral Science Research; March 4 - 8, 2019

Social and behavioral science research, the key constituent for India`s economic growth is beholding rapid transformation due to digital revolution, biophysical and social changes influencing sectors including agriculture, industries and services. Consequently, when research proposes evidence based solutions to pressing development problems, there is a need to place focus on strengthening basic research competencies of social and behavioural scientists. Thus, there is a need for a platform to combine basic skills with advanced methods that will enable advancing knowledge, sharpen critical skills and develop constructive attitudes/ opinions to advance social and behavioural sciences and equivalent professional practice that require prolonged period of education and training.
 
Organized in collaboration with Agricultural Extension in South Asia (AESA), Centre for Research on Innovation and Science Policy (CRISP), ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (ICAR-CTCRI) and MANAGE, the residential workshop aims to equip scientists, development professionals, academicians, and research scholars from extension, economics, sociology, psychology, social work, business management, and other related disciplines with critical skills in conducting and publishing empirical social and behavioral science research. The workshop serves as a platform for stakeholders involved in research to discuss novel methodologies and issues of developmental research within their disciplines.
 
This residential workshop broadly covers the following:
 
  • Research planning. Specifying research problems, questions, and objectives; critical review of literature; specifying concepts, constructs, and hypotheses; choosing a “right” research design, methods and tools; online data collection; and sampling techniques.
  • Conducting research. Field data collection and management; techniques of reducing biases; reliability and validity assessment.
  • Analysis and interpretation of data. Data cleaning and basic statistical analysis/univariate and multivariate; advanced methods scale development/factor analysis; conjoint analysis; qualitative content analysis/thematic analysis.
