My most significant and relevant work experience was working in a progressive primary school in a small town in Gujarat. I not only taught 5th through 7th standard classes, but developed the 6th standard curriculum and a broader arts class. I was involved in every aspect of school life. My desire is to take this positive educational experience and use its insights to inform work in the field of educational development.My current work is with an arts education upstart. We work hard to bring arts education, an important part of education, to local schools and community centers. I find this work in the non-profit sector to be very meaningful and dynamic.
Master of Arts from Columbia University in New York, majoring in International Educational Development. Took courses and did research in human rights education, curriculum development, monitoring and evaluation, diverse classrooms, textbooks and pedagogy, art education, formal and non-formal education, migration, among many other topics. For the master's thesis, am writing on relevant curricula for minority and marginalized populations, e.g. Scheduled Tribes. Will complete in December 2012.
