Professional Experience:

I bring over 20 years of progressive leadership in natural resource management, rural livelihoods, CSR, and community-based enterprise development across India, with a career defined by sustained, substantive engagement with government systems rather than occasional partnership with them.

Government-Embedded Leadership. For nine years, I served as Chief Program Officer & Head of the Science & Technology Resource Centre (STRC) under the Rajiv Gandhi Science & Technology Commission, Government of Maharashtra, holding full institutional, financial and strategic ownership of a government-mandated regional development institution, with direct accountability to its governing body as Member Secretary. Earlier, I spent three years operating from within the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Government of Odisha, as UNDP's State Project Manager, and two-plus years embedded in national conservation research systems with the Wildlife Institute of India and the National Tiger Conservation Authority. In total, 14-plus years of my career have been spent positioned inside government structures.

CSR and Corporate Partnerships. As Project Director for NMDC's CSR programme in Dantewada, I directed an annual portfolio of approximately ?7 crore, owning the full cycle of budgeting, utilisation certificates, board presentations and compliance reporting, while serving as principal interface between corporate leadership, district administration and host communities in a highly sensitive operating environment.

Rural Entrepreneurship and Livelihoods. I have built natural resource-based livelihood and enterprise systems benefiting 4,000-plus tribal households, including founding Gondwana Craft, a 500-artisan women-led consortium spanning bamboo craft, Gond painting, pottery and Dokra metal art, and a community-owned NTFP enterprise in mahua and honey. I have also held sectoral leadership in the bamboo and non-timber forest produce space.

Carbon, Climate and Landscape Restoration. I currently lead partnerships and operations for the Regeneration Meghalaya Project, a landscape-scale afforestation and reforestation programme run under verified carbon-project protocols, engaging 1,000-plus landowners across the Garo Hills.

Fundraising and Institutional Partnerships. Over my career, I have owned fundraising cycles end to end — opportunity identification, concept notes, proposals, pitching and donor stewardship — mobilising ?3-plus crore in government, CSR and institutional funding from bodies including DST, NASI and Oxfam India.

State-Level and Multi-District Leadership. I have led multi-district and multi-state programme implementation across Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Odisha and Meghalaya, recruiting, mentoring and retaining multidisciplinary and remote field teams of 25-30-plus members, and building second-line leadership and institutional delivery capability in every organisation I have led.

Across these threads, my work has consistently sat at the intersection of government systems, community enterprise, and institutional accountability — translating policy priorities and field realities into fundable, executable, and sustainable programmes.

Education:

My academic foundation began with a B.Sc. (Honours) in Zoology from North Odisha University, where I developed a grounding in animal biology, ecology and field-based scientific observation — the starting point for a career that has stayed close to natural systems and conservation science ever since.

I went on to pursue an M.Sc. in Forestry, specialising in Economics & Management, at the Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun — one of India's oldest and most respected institutions for forestry education and research. This programme gave me a dual lens that has shaped my entire career: the ecological and silvicultural fundamentals of forest systems, paired with the economic and management frameworks needed to translate forest resources into sustainable livelihoods and institutional strategy. The specialisation in economics and management, rather than pure silviculture, was a deliberate choice — it positioned me from early on to work at the intersection of conservation science and programme leadership, rather than in field research alone.

Alongside and following my formal degree, I undertook structured conservation research training with the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), both based in Dehradun. This was less a classroom qualification and more an immersive apprenticeship in applied conservation science: I worked on species- and habitat-level field research, including studies on the nesting ecology of saltwater crocodiles in Bhitarkanika, Odisha, and contributed to the All-India Tiger Estimation Project across the central Indian landscape. This period, recognised through my designation as a National Fellow of the NTCA, Government of India, immersed me in rigorous field methodology, wildlife population assessment techniques, and the policy and institutional architecture of India's forest and wildlife governance — experience that continues to inform how I think about conservation at both the ground and systems level.

To complement this science-and-conservation grounding with a more applied, enterprise-oriented perspective, I completed a Certificate Diploma in Wildlife & Eco-tourism at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. This programme introduced me to the principles of sustainable tourism development, visitor management, and the economic models through which conservation areas can generate local livelihoods without compromising ecological integrity — a theme that has recurred throughout my later work building community-owned natural resource enterprises.

Taken together, this academic and training trajectory was not incidental but cumulative: zoology gave me the biological foundation, FRI gave me the technical and managerial framework for forestry as a sector, WII/NTCA gave me rigorous field research grounding and exposure to government conservation systems, and IIT Kharagpur gave me the enterprise and livelihoods lens. This combination — rare in a single career — is what has allowed me to move fluidly between field science, government institutional leadership, and livelihoods programme design over the past two decades, and it remains the intellectual backbone of how I approach natural resource and development work today.
