JOB DESCRIPTION -- BLOCK COORDINATOR

Position: Block Coordinator

Location: Assigned Health Block (within District)

Reporting to: District Project Coordinator

Employment Type: Full-time/Contractual

Working Days: 6 days/week

Travel: Extensive local travel within the block (villages & PHCs)

About the Program
Bahaar Foundation is implementing a large-scale Community Health Entrepreneur (CHE) Program across Punjab, India, with the goal of establishing 10,000 to 12,000 CHEs (one per village) over the next 2 years. The program will empower local women to serve as first-level health access points for their communities, offering preventive, promotive, and basic curative services in partnership with government systems and private stakeholders.

The Block Coordinator plays a crucial grassroots role in strengthening community mobilisation, CHE deployment, awareness, and field engagement, and to extend day-to-day support to Community Health Entrepreneurs (CHEs) at the block level. The role acts as the frontline support system for CHEs and helps ensure sustained field activity, service utilisation, and community acceptance.

Role Purpose
To support CHEs in their assigned health block by facilitating community mobilisation, awareness generation, field mentoring, and operational assistance that helps CHEs increase their income, service delivery, and community trust. The Block Coordinator will help CHEs become active, confident, and trusted community-level health entrepreneurs while ensuring smooth field operations and regular community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
1. Community Mobilisation & Awareness
* Support CHEs in mobilising households, SHGs, youth groups, panchayat members and local community members to encourage utilisation of CHE services.
* Support CHEs to conduct village-level outreach activities on key health themes (BP, sugar, anemia, eye health, menstrual & WASH hygiene and preventive healthcare).
* Support CHEs in organising health camps, screening drives, awareness meetings and community micro-events.
* Build community trust for the CHE by introducing her to key local influencers, community leaders and women-groups.

2. CHE Activation, Mentoring & Operational Support
* Provide daily/weekly on-ground handholding and mentoring to CHEs within the assigned block.
* Support newly onboarded CHEs in becoming field-active within the defined timelines.
* Guide CHEs on improving service uptake, customer interaction, awareness generation and follow-up practices.
* Ensure CHEs follow SOPs related to screenings, POC kit usage, referrals and reporting.
* Troubleshoot day-to-day field challenges faced by CHEs (community resistance, low service uptake, device usage, etc.).
* Identify inactive or low-performing CHEs and support reactivation efforts
* Escalate unresolved issues to the Project Coordinator/Reporting Manager on time.

3. Community Relationship Building
* Build strong rapport with village leaders, PRI representatives, health staff, ASHAs, ANMs AWWs and SHGs to create an enabling environment for CHEs.
* Promote acceptance of CHE services through positive messaging and local advocacy.
* Identify potential households or population groups requiring additional mobilization.

4. Data Support & Reporting
* Support CHEs in using the SAATH App for service entries, follow-ups, referrals and case records.
* Submit regular activity updates, field observations, photos, success stories, and issue reports.
* Help maintain village visit logs, awareness session records, camps and community feedback.

5. Stakeholder Engagement
* Build strong working relationships with block health officials, ICDS supervisors, SHG leaders, Panchayats and other local stakeholders.
* Represent Bahaar Foundation at district/block-level review meetings.
* Coordinate with partners, training institutes, and government stakeholders to ensure local convergence and support systems for CHEs.
* Promote positive community acceptance and visibility of CHE services.
* Serve as a grassroots ambassador promoting preventive healthcare, community well-being, women-led entrepreneurship, and local health awareness by actively representing the CHE Program during village meetings, awareness drives, public gatherings, camps, and local events, while encouraging positive community participation, trust-building, and support for CHE-led initiatives across the assigned block.

Qualifications & Experience
* Preferably a recent college graduate from social work, public health or related fields.
* Strong interest in public health, social work, or community service.
* Freshers with strong field orientation and community engagement skills may also apply.
* Local resident of the assigned block (preferred).
* Good communication skills in Punjabi and Hindi.
* Ability to travel within the block (cycle, scooty, walk) - having a vehicle will be a bonus.
