Professional Experience:
Dr. Perminder Kaur is a chemical engineer and sustainability policy researcher with over 20 years of experience spanning academia, public policy, research management, and technology translation. Her work integrates sustainable development, clean energy transitions, bioenergy, entrepreneurship, and circular economy approaches.
Currently, she serves as Assistant Professor (Senior Scale) at Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), Delhi, where she teaches courses on Sustainable Development, Corporate Sustainability & Transformation (CST), and Entrepreneurship. She actively contributes to curriculum development, executive training programs, and interdisciplinary sustainability education for management students.
She is also a Senior Fellow at BlueKraft Foundation, Delhi (?15 lakh fellowship), where she has authored a policy-focused book (under publication) addressing contemporary sustainability and development challenges.
Previously, she worked as a Senior Policy Fellow at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), IISc Bangalore, under the Ministry of Science and Technology (Government of India). Her work involved primary and secondary research on India’s bioenergy ecosystem and contributions to national policy initiatives. She contributed to major national initiatives including the National Electric Vehicle Mission, Science Technology and Innovation Policy (STIP), National Defence Technology policy consultations, and the National Manufacturing Innovation Survey.
She was also part of the organising and moderation team of the Science Conclave 2022 at Science City, Ahmedabad, chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India along with science ministers of various states. She has authored over 80 research publications, with a Google Scholar h-index of 9, and co-authored the international book Sustainable Metal Extraction from Waste Streams (Wiley-VCH).
Earlier, she served as Assistant Professor at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (2018–2021), teaching biochemical engineering, enzymatic kinetics, and numerical methods to B.Tech and M.Tech students, while supervising student research projects.
She also worked as a Project Scientist at IIT Delhi under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (2016–2018), where she focused on rural technology transfer, coordination with 17 partner institutions, and stakeholder engagement with ministries. She organised national workshops and prepared knowledge compendiums on rural bio-resource utilization.
Dr. Kaur completed her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi, focusing on eco-friendly biomass treatment technologies. Her doctoral research involved laboratory and field validation of bio-based preservation techniques, technology transfer to rural artisans, and development of sustainable treatment processes. Her work received national recognition, including the Prof. Meera Madan Award for Excellence in Ph.D. research.
Earlier in her career, she worked as a DST Women Scientist (WOS-B) (2007–2011), leading a ?12 lakh funded project on scientific validation of traditional biomass preservation knowledge. She conducted field research, documented indigenous practices, and organised capacity-building workshops for rural communities.
She also worked as a Project Associate at IIT Delhi on rural entrepreneurship initiatives and began her teaching career as an Assistant Lecturer at BITS (Off-Campus), teaching transport phenomena and environmental engineering.
