Professional Experience:
I, Dr. Jayanti Singh, am a trained public health specialist and epidemiologist with over two decades of experience in designing and implementing public health programs under the auspices of UNICEF and WHO. In 2019, I completed the Epidemic Intelligence Services Fellowship, complementing my Master’s in Public Health from Lucknow University and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Motilal Nehru Medical College, Allahabad. I understand Health system closely and I have been involved in implementation and scale up of public health programs for mass campaigns for polio and universal Immunization programs and mass drug administration of LF in India which are world’s biggest campaigns.
As a Senior Program Officer for Neglected Tropical Diseases with the Gates Foundation, my primary responsibilities included supporting the National Filaria Elimination Program by enhancing the uptake of chemoprophylaxis drugs through the implementation of Mass Drug Administration (MDA) for Lymphatic Filariasis. Additionally, I supported the National Kala-azar Elimination Program by promoting early detection, treatment of Kala-azar cases, and vector management.
In my previous role at the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control, I contributed to the control of malaria and other vector-borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, Kala-azar, and lymphatic filariasis. My responsibilities included scaling up the Integrated Health Information Platform – Vector Borne Diseases portal nationally and developing the National Strategic Plan for Malaria 2023–2027.
I participated in key reviews including the National Malaria Program Review, the Independent Review of the National Leprosy Program, and the Lymphatic Filariasis Program Review Meeting. I have a proven track record of working closely with the LF program, including conducting the LF Exemplars Study in India for Gates Ventures. My expertise extends to collaborative work at the national, state, district, and sub-district levels, engaging with government officials, international and national technical experts, and political leaders.
My experience also includes working with WHO and UNICEF’s Polio Eradication Program in Uttar Pradesh and representing UNICEF India at the 2009 Annual Meeting for Polio Eradication in New York. I am skilled in strategizing and micro-planning for immunization campaigns, including Universal Immunization Program activities and supplementary vitamin A doses, targeting vulnerable and high-risk populations.
As Deputy Social Mobilization Coordinator in Uttar Pradesh, I designed and implemented social and behavioral change communication strategies to overcome vaccine hesitancy and reach underserved and mobile populations, including migrant laborers. I organized Japanese Encephalitis immunization campaigns in coordination with central and state health departments of endemic regions. I also served as a surveillance medical officer with the National Polio Surveillance Project, WHO, in India. Additionally, I served as the team physician for the national Indian women’s soccer team during the Asian Championship in 2000.
