About the Organisation

One in every 50, over 26 million individuals in India has Intellectual Disability (ID). In spite of this colossal number, they are stigmatized and are considered less deserving and are unable to access the resources that they need to achieve their full potential. Within the disabilities space, ID seems to be the most invisible. They continue to be excluded from India’s mainstream development narrative, experiencing widespread violations of their rights.

Founded in 1944, we are one of the oldest & largest not for profit institutes in India serving children & adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID). Over the past 77 years, we have touched the lives of lakhs of children & their families. We are committed to looking at each child with a belief in their potential to lead fuller and more inclusive lives.

We serve over 700 Individuals annually who have ID and may have other related disabilities such as autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, visual &/or hearing impairment. We have our campus in Mumbai and rural branches at Deolali & Talegaon.

Job Role: Head – Finance and Compliance

Location: Mumbai

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Purpose

• To provide strategic leadership for the Finance and Compliance for the organisation.
• To ensure the application of financial policies and procedures in collaboration with the other members of the Senior Management Team; consolidate and produce financial, statutory and management reports; ensure that robust accounting processes are in place whilst ensuring decentralisation, efficiency of operations and integrity of systems; facilitate adequate capacities for accounting, treasury, financial management, and compliance.
• To ensure compliance with all relevant laws of the land pertaining to payroll, accounting, finance, Income Tax, Goods and Services Tax, Charitable Trusts, Foreign Contribution Regulation Act etc.
• The role includes ensuring proper recording, documentation, controls, monitoring and reporting of financial operations to all stakeholders of the organization with correctness, consistency, and timeliness.
• Support the Chief Executive in good governance by ensuring compliance and reporting related to donors, the Board, and other legal and statutory procedures.
• As a member of the Senior Management Team, to provide strategic leadership and guidance to the organisation.

Responsibilities

Financial Strategy and Planning:

• Develop and implement financial strategies in alignment with the organization's mission, goals, and objectives.
• Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop realistic and strategic budgets.
• Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide regular reports to the executive team and Board of Directors.

Financial Management and Compliance:

• Oversee all financial operations at Mumbai head office and rural branch offices, including payroll processing, accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Plan and manage investments and Cash & Bank balances ensuring the safety whilst ensuring best returns and smooth cash flows.
• Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and legal requirements.
• Manage relationships with auditors, regulatory agencies, and financial institutions.

Risk Management and Internal Controls:

• Identify financial risks and implement appropriate risk management strategies.
• Manage development and implementation of financial policies & procedures.
• Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and mitigate financial risks.

Grant Management and Donor Reporting:

• Manage financial aspects of grants and contracts, including budget development, reporting, and compliance specific to the funding Government departments, Institutional, CSR and other funders.
• Coordinate with the Donor Management Team to ensure accurate and timely reporting to donors and funding agencies.

Team Leadership and Development:

• Provide leadership and direction to the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor and develop finance staff, supporting their professional growth and development.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA or CA preferred.
• Proven experience of 7 - 10 years in the field including at least a couple of years as a CFO or senior finance executive in the NGO sector with a budget of over 15-20 cr.
• Strong understanding of non-profit financial management, including fund accounting, grant management, and compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial strategies to support organizational goals.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., Tally Prime, MS Excel, Google Sheets).
• Excellent collaborative, team management and leadership skills.
• Effective communicator with the ability to present financial information to diverse stakeholders.
• Strategic thinker with a commitment to transparency, integrity, and accountability.
