UDAYAN is a home and school on the outskirts of Kolkata, for children whose families are affected by Leprosy. These children suffer from the stigma of the disease -­ they are rarely  sent to school and often end up as beggars, street children, child workers or involved in crime. Girl children become victims of human trafficking. 

 

Set on 8acres of lush, green land, this residential home and school helps transform the lives of up to 300 of these children who receive the highest quality of care, compassion and education, enabling them to lead healthy, respected, productive lives. 

 

Udayan is fortunate to have Australian Cricket Legend, Steve Waugh as a Patron.  He, and renowned French Author, the late Dominique Lapierre, have been supporters for over 3 decades.  Udayan has received extensive acclaim and support internationally for its  work.

 
Job Responsibilities
 
Organisation Management & Leadership
  • Will be responsible for driving the implementation & achievement of goals in Udayan Strategic Plan.
  • Will lead regular reviews of Strategy with Governing Body & participate in annual strategy planning.
  • Will think strategically and set goals for both the organization and team members, with strategy alignment.
  • Will be responsible for day-­to-­day operations, professional running, growth & development of Udayan.
  • Responsible to value-add and enhance programs to ensure impact, and to implement monitoring and evaluation system to track program outcomes and performance.
  • Will be responsible to ensure upkeep, maintenance & maximization of all facilities and equipment.
  • Will be responsible to bring appropriate issues and policy decisions to the Trust/Board in a timely manner for discussion and resolution.
  • Act to ensure the best interests of (leprosy-affected) children, ensuring that all strategies, plans, and actions prioritize their welfare and benefit. 
  • Administration
  • Will be responsible to maintain all regulatory compliances and certifications (ie FCRA, Child Welfare Certificate etc.) in collaboration with Accountant.
  • Will be responsible to report to the Governing Body on all aspects of Udayan activities on a monthly basis, including attendance at monthly Governing Body meeting (providing Written Report + Financial Report 1 week in advance.)
  • Will be responsible to maintain complete records pertaining to the organization, activities and properties.
  • Will account for the development and implementation of the organisation’s policies, manuals, standards and guidelines and implements administrative systems promoting the efficient and responsible use of financial resources and property. 
Financial Oversight & Fundraising
  • Will be responsible for setting annual budgets for Udayan and its key donors, and ensuring accurate budget expenditure in a timely manner.
  • Will be responsible for the overall financial management of Udayan, in collaboration with Accountant and Treasurer, including monitoring of receipts, expenditures and cash flow.
  • Will be responsible for the streamlining of all costs at Udayan.
  • Working in collaboration with accountant, Director will work to meet all requirements of annual, internal and donor audits.
  • Monitor operations of the program and support for compliance to the budget.
  • Drive Fundraising subcommittee in collaboration with Governing Body, and actively prospect to secure a wide range of donor support.
  • Responsible for donor reporting and stewardship.
Human Resources
  •  Will be responsible for the recruitment and induction of all staff in accordance with Local Laws and Udayan Society/Board policies
  • Will be responsible for Executive Committee meetings and oversight of key staff and the effective execution of        their duties.
  • Will be responsible for managing and optimizing senior staff, and implementation of staff appraisals.
  • Will be responsible for identifying training opportunities and capacity building of staff.
  • Will be responsible to implement and adhere to all HR processes in accordance with Udayan’s HR Policy.
  • Will be responsible to foster an enabling culture at Udayan.
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Will be responsible to foster close relationships with key stakeholders at Udayan.
  • Required to drive strategic partnerships and foster relationships within Government, the Leprosy/NGO community, Corporates and other organisations.
  • Attendance and representation of Udayan at key events for visibility, networking & learning.

Mandatory
  • Post Graduate Degree (Social Sciences, Education or Other)
  • High level of understanding and interest in sector of education
  • Business and Financial Acumen – will be responsible for managing the ongoing operations within a defined budget.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in relevant sector (Education,  NGO, Vocational Training, Children).
  • Proven experience in managing a team.
  • Proven experience in financial management and fundraising.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken Bengali and English.
Desired

  • Experience managing a facility.
  • Some understanding of corporate governance.
  • Some understanding of legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities with respect to running an NGO/Residential Home with children.
