Job Description for Field Executive – Green Oasis Project
Location – Chennai
TIDE is a Bangalore based NGO working on facilitating sustainable development in communities through technological interventions, particularly in climate resilience, rural livelihoods, and urban sustainability. TIDE adapts and disseminates technology based, innovative skills for rural communities, particularly women. The work of TIDE in this area is largely focusing on creating / supporting individual or group enterprises for livelihood augmentation in rural communities.
Job Summary
As a Field Assistant for Rain Garden Maintenance & Operations, you will support the implementation and upkeep of rain gardens and other nature-based urban infrastructure initiatives led by TIDE. This role involves on-ground technical and operational assistance, routine maintenance oversight, basic data collection, conducting pre/post site assessment and reporting. The ideal candidate will have a civil engineering background with a passion for environmental sustainability and hands-on fieldwork.
Key responsibilities :
• Support the Manager in delivering TIDE's vision on climate resilient action plans and implementation of rain gardens for Green Oasis Project.
• Collaborate with TIDE’s Management team to establish and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders, particularly governmental organizations, to strengthen TIDE's initiatives.
• Ensure regular maintenance and monitoring of rain gardens and associated infrastructure.
• Assist in field-level execution of designs related to stormwater management and urban green infrastructure.
• Conduct site inspections, troubleshoot minor issues, and coordinate with contractors or vendors for repairs.
• Support data collection related to rainfall, infiltration rates, plant health, and analyze overall system performance through pre & post assessment activities.
• Interact with local communities, stakeholders, and partner teams to explain project objectives and encourage participation.
• Maintain accurate daily logs of field activities, expenses, and material usage.
• Report observations, challenges, and maintenance needs to the technical or project lead regularly.
Qualifications and Skills :
• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• 1–2 years of experience in field-based roles; prior work in urban infrastructure or sustainability projects is a plus.
• Basic understanding of drainage systems, rain water harvesting systems, landscaping, or water management preferred.
• Ability to read simple engineering drawings and use basic measurement tools.
• Willingness to work in outdoor, on-site conditions and travel within Chennai as needed.
• Comfortable interacting with local workers, vendors, and communities.
• Basic knowledge of MS Excel/Google Sheets and willingness to learn data entry/reporting tools.
• Proficiency in Tamil is essential; working knowledge of English is desirable.
• Ethical, dependable, and detail-oriented.
• Willingness to work in other areas of climate & sustainability
Note: This position reports directly to the Project Manager.
Job location is Chennai.
Pay Range
Will be at par with the sector.
