Bharat–Africa Collaborative Health Research Program
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), in partnership with the Gates Foundation, is establishing a dedicated Program Management Unit (PMU) to strengthen and scale Indo–Africa collaborative research across priority public health domains. The PMU will serve as a strategic platform to coordinate multi-country research partnerships, manage jointly funded programmes, and translate high-quality evidence into policy and practice. To support the operationalization and effective functioning of this PMU, we invite applications from qualified and motivated professionals for Senior Consultant position. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of global health research, international collaboration, and public-sector systems strengthening, contributing directly to impactful research in Infectious Diseases and MNCHN across India and Africa.
Scope of Work /Key Responsibilities
Reporting: To give the PMU team strategic guidance, the Consultants will collaborate closely with senior leadership of ICMR and Gates Foundation
Scope of work: Mid-level consultant
- Support day-to-day PMU operations for Indo–Africa collaborative research implementation.
- Help with Phase I (adaptation of current projects) and Phase II (new collaborative projects) planning and implementation.
- Work together with the Gates Foundation, African partners, ICMR institutions, and other relevant parties.
- Support grant and portfolio management including proposals, work plans, budgets, MoUs, and contracts.
- Monitor project progress, fund utilization, timeframes, and compliance with requirements.
- Provide technical help in Infectious Diseases (TB, HIV, malaria, VBDs) and MNCHN.
- Assist with dashboards, monitoring, assessment, reporting, and document reviews.
- Help plan investigator gatherings, symposia, workshops, and capacity-building events.
- Encourage program visibility, best practice documentation, and communication outputs.
- Offer operational and administrative assistance, such as logistics, travel, and record keeping.
Required Qualifications
Qualification:
- Postgraduate degree (Master’s) in Public Health / Life Sciences / Biomedical Sciences / Biotechnology / Microbiology / Epidemiology / Social Sciences / Statistics / Health Management or related discipline
OR
- Professional degree: MBBS / BDS / BAMS / BHMS / B.Pharm / B.V.Sc from a recognized university.
Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of post-qualification experience in health research projects / public health programs / program or grant management / monitoring & reporting.
- Experience in donor-funded, multi-institutional, or international projects is desirable.
- Age Limit: Up to 40 years.
Desirable Experience
- Experience of working with ICMR / Government of India / international donor-funded projects
- Familiarity with research governance, ethics, monitoring & evaluation, and reporting systems
- Ability to coordinate with national and international partners, including African institutions
