JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE : Lead - Evidence Generation and Narrative Building
REPORTING TO : State Head - Maharashtra
LOCATION : Nagpur, Maharshtra
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is critical to strengthening evidence generation, learning, and narrativebuilding efforts across existing and future interventions under the approved State Team Structure. The role will ensure that field-level insights, data, and research are systematically documented, synthesized, and translated into strong narratives to support state-level advocacy, donor engagement, and strategic decision-making.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential functions but not exhaustive):
1. Provide strategic guidance to teams to ensure field data collection, analysis, and planning align with the organization’s vision and thematic priorities.
2. Facilitate forums across district, block, and project teams to synthesize project insights into cohesive narratives for state-level advocacy and donor engagement.
3. Oversee timely, accurate documentation and reporting of qualitative and quantitative evidence from all project areas.
4. Support teams in adopting systems-based planning approaches and integrating research findings into state-, district-, and block-level action plans.
5. Align state-level evidence generation processes with the broader organizational strategy and diverse MoU and donor requirements.
6. Serve as the primary point of contact for engaging with Maharashtra State Administration, donors, and NGO partners using program evidence and narratives.
7. Mentor teams across districts to maintain high standards of documentation, analytical rigor, and a unified narrative voice.
8. Take up any other task as deemed fit or entrusted/assigned by the reporting officer from time to time.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES:
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Social Sciences, Ecology, Economics, Development Communications, or a related field.
• Proven experience in the NGO/development sector, particularly in roles involving research, impact evaluation, evidence synthesis, or high-level narrative building at the state or national level.
• Strong proficiency in mixed-methods research, combining quantitative data with qualitative insights and storytelling.
• Deep understanding of Natural Resource Management (NRM) and systemsbased development approaches.
• Native or professional fluency in Marathi, with a strong understanding of Maharashtra’s socio-ecological, administrative, and policy context.
• Ability to balance strategic vision with technical accuracy in ground-level reporting, while mentoring teams across multiple geographies.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex systems thinking into clear, persuasive narratives for government stakeholders, donors, and partners.
