About Urmul Setu
Urmul Setu Sansthan, founded in 1994 by Late Sanjoy Ghosh, a renowned Social Activist, is a grassroots development organisation working across remote desert regions of western Rajasthan, with a strong focus on livelihoods, advancing girls’ education, gender equity and community-led institutional strengthening. As part of the Urmul Network, the organisation is recognised for its deep community embeddedness and long-term social norms approach, mobilising women’s and youth collectives to improve access to education, health, livelihoods and public entitlements. Urmul Setu combines program implementation with capacity building and partnerships with government and civil society to enable sustainable, locally owned change among marginalised rural communities.
Position:Manager, Marketing and FPO Business
Urmul has been sanctioned a project by Tata Trusts titled “Enhancing dryland Sheep and Goat Farmers’ livelihoods through Strengthening of Producer and Marketing Linkages”. Manager - Marketing cum FPO Business will support business planning, aggregation, market linkage development, and operational strengthening of FPOs engaged in goat-based livelihoods. This role demands strong market understanding, field engagement skills, and the ability to translate community institutions into viable producer-owned enterprises.
Key Responsibilities
FPO Business Strengthening
- Assist in preparation and implementation of business plans
- Organise and facilitate aggregation and marketing of goats and bucks
- Support bookkeeping, MIS, and financial tracking mechanisms
Marketing & Market Linkages
- Identify and establish market linkages for live goats and allied products
- Facilitate buyer negotiations and long-term partnerships
- Support price discovery and market intelligence systems
Capacity Building
- Train FPO Board members and producer leaders on business management
- Build capacities in enterprise planning, costing, and profitability analysis
- Facilitate exposure visits and market interface events
Documentation & Reporting
- Track sales volumes, margins, and enterprise performance indicators
- Contribute to donor reporting and learning documentation
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Agriculture, Business Management, Rural Management, Social Work or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in FPO promotion, agri-business, livestock value chains, or rural enterprise development
- Experience in goat or small ruminant value chain preferred
- Strong understanding of market systems and enterprise development
- Experience working with producer collectives / cooperatives
Desired Skills
- Business planning and financial analysis skills
- Negotiation and relationship management abilities
- Ability to work independently in rural field conditions
- Familiarity with community institutions (SHGs, producer groups, collectives)
- Good documentation and reporting skills
- Fluency in Hindi and English
