About the Project: With the support of The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (GFATM) and guidance from the Central TB Division, will be implementing; (a) Integrated Pediatric TB care services in both the public and private health sectors to increase pediatric TB case detection and improve treatment outcomes, and (b) Active Case Finding (ACF) for early detection of missing TB cases among key and vulnerable populations, using innovative AI-enabled portable X-ray devices. SAATHII is the Principal Recipient of the grant and TB Alert India (TBAI) is the SR for implementation in state of Telangana.
TB Alert India seeking application for the post of District Nurse Mentor based at district headquarter of the implementation geographies to lead implementation of project "Decentralizing Pediatric TB Care Services in Public & Private Health Sector and enhance case detection through ACF with Handheld X-Ray across selected geographies/districts of the state.
Project Duration: Till Jan 2027
Project Reporting to: District Project Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Situational assessment of primary and secondary level public and private healthcare facilities to identify practices and challenges in pediatric sample collection practices.
- Compile a list of nursing and doctor staff members from these facilities who require training in sample collection procedures in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP).
- Prepare comprehensive plan to train and mentor nursing staff and medical officer on the sample collection procedures (gastric aspirate, Induced sputum, nasopharyngeal aspirate).
- Improve the competency of the nurse and medical officers on sample collection in the Hub Sites.
- Facilitate team building and systems improvement and build a positive environment in the facility where all Hub Sites are established.
- Establish strong relationships with facility staff and conduct participatory self-assessment exercises to identify solutions for various aspects of pediatric TB sample collection.
- Create individualized learning plans tailored to each mentee's specific needs and objectives, considering their current skills and knowledge levels.
- Coordinate with Medical College and NRC experts in the district/neighbouring districts/Pediatric Centre of Excellence on sample collection training ongoing skill building and addressing challenges.
- Liaison with the NTEP staff for NAAT & other testing, and network with the other departments like WCD, ICDS, RBSK, RKSK and AAMs for improving the referral mechanism.
- Participation in the District & State level TB related trainings.
- Provide continuous supervision and assessment of the mentees' clinical skills in the sample collection procedures, regularly monitoring their progress and performance adapting the mentoring approach as necessary through field visits.
- Plan & prioritise the mentorship visits to the Hub Sites where the sample collection is not optimal.
- Track the sample collection process and reporting.
- Assist the program team in developing or revising the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for pediatric sample collection procedures.
- The DNM will cover the neighbouring two or more districts based on the requirement of the Project.
- Document all the activities as per the project requirements and report to the supervisor on a daily basis.
- Undertake any other activities and responsibilities as reasonably required by the project and organization.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Qualified Nursing – B.Sc./Diploma/M.Sc. Nursing.
- Strong communication and subject knowledge on sample collection and mentorship.
- At least 5-10 years of nursing experience, especially proven pediatric nursing experience on pediatric sample collection (gastric aspirate, induced sputum, and nasopharyngeal aspirate procedure).
- Willingness to travel on a daily basis to the project geographies and to the state headquarters for trainings and meetings.
- Good oral and written communication skills in English & regional language.
- Understanding of the TB or any public health program, public health systems, and private health sector functioning is desirable.
- Ability to engage with stakeholders from multiple sectors of government, private health care providers, civil society and communities at district level is desirable.
- Basic knowledge & practice of computer skills, including use of Internet, MS Office (Excel/Word & PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as a team player in a complex, multicultural environment.
