Centre for Social Markets is a Section 25 Not for Profit Organisation dedicated to promoting and creating awareness about sustainability, mobilising climate action, promoting sustainability education and enabling various stakeholders to transition towards greater sustainability in India. It undertakes programmes and projects for empowering marginal farmers and workers in the agricultural value chains and promotes awareness amongst different stakeholders about need for sustainability and addressing climate change, CSM also undertakes research and documentation in various topics related to sustainability in agriculture and agro-forestry related matter.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Farmer Mobilization and Awareness:
o Conduct awareness sessions to educate farmers about the benefits and requirements of Organic and Fairtrade Certification.
o Assist in enrolling farmers into certification programs and ensure their active participation.
o Work closely with farmers and FPOs to ensure proper harvest and post-harvest handling of products.
2. Documentation and Record-Keeping:
o Maintain detailed records of participating farmers along with signatures.
o Collect and organize required data and documents for certification. (e.g., Patta Pass Book, Area, crops, Aadhar, Photos, farmer agreements etc.,).
o Review and check documentation collected by field officer
3. Training and Capacity Building:
o Provide regular inputs/awareness to farmers on Organic Standards, Fair Trade principles, and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
o Facilitate workshops and demonstrations on organic input preparation and sustainable farming techniques.
o Provide training to farmers for setting up systems and processes for certification compliance such as IPM, INM, Labour records, Documentation management (farmer diaries) etc
4. Field Monitoring and Compliance:
o Conduct regular field visits to monitor farming practices and ensure compliance with Organic and Fair Trade Certification standards.
o Identify and report any non-compliance issues, working with farmers to implement corrective actions.
o Assist certification bodies and auditors during field inspections by coordinating farmer participation and ensuring the availability of necessary documents.
5. Reporting:
o Submit timely reports to the Program Lead or Certification Manager on farmer progress, compliance status, and certification-related activities.
o Provide feedback on field challenges.
Qualifications:
- Education & Technical experience: Minimum intermediate with technical training in field of agriculture and/or certification.
- Experience: 7- 10 years of fieldwork experience in NGO, agriculture, IPM, Velugu /GCC/ Coffee would be preferred.
Skills:
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
o Basic knowledge of organic farming practices and Fair Trade principles.
o Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
o Knowledge of computer and data entry would be an advantage
o Familiarity with local farming communities and practices.
Key Competencies:
- Proactive and self-motivated with a passion for the welfare of tribal communities.
- Ability to work independently in remote areas.
- Strong mobilizing and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in local language(s) .
Working Conditions:
- Frequent travel to assigned villages and farmer locations.
- Flexible working hours based on project requirements.
