Communications Lead
 
SwaTaleem Foundation is an India and US registered civil society organization that works towards creating a gender equal world through education in partnership with government systems. Its emphasis is on enhancing long-term educational and life outcomes of Girls through a community-centric approach backed by evidence-based pedagogy. It engages with Girls, teachers, schools, government officials and parents.
 
Who Should Apply?  
We are looking for someone with a strong background in communications and storytelling and is passionate about social impact and gender equity. This role is ideal for a candidate who has led communication strategies, enjoys working with both grassroots narratives and global audiences. 
 
The following experience, skills and traits are desired for the role:
  • Proven ability to lead and execute communication strategies.
  • Strong storytelling skills with experience creating professional collateral using Canva, Microsoft PowerPoint, MS Word, and other design software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Hindi.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Self-driven, reflective, and open to continuous learning and feedback. 
 
Roles and Responsibilities
As the Communications Lead, you will head the communications vertical at SwaTaleem. This is a strategic leadership role involving storytelling, stakeholder engagement and brand management. You will be responsible for designing and executing communication strategies that build trust, visibility, and influence while amplifying the voices of adolescent girls and communities we work with.
 
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with organizational vision and goals.
  • Provide       thought             leadership         on        external            positioning,       narrative           building, and public engagement.
  • Coordinate with internal team members and external vendors (designers, videographers, writers, PR agencies).

       Content & Storytelling  

  • Drive high-impact storytelling through articles, case studies, films, reports, slide decks, social media content, and grassroots narratives.
  • Work closely with programme teams to capture authentic voices, and stories from the ground.
  • Ensure consistent tone, voice, and visual identity across all materials.
Digital & Media Outreach
  • Grow and manage the organization?s digital presence across platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.).
  • Design and lead campaigns for events, fundraising, partnerships, and advocacy in collaboration with the Fundraising team.
  • Track analytics and use insights to refine content and outreach.
Stakeholder and Donor Communication
  • Work with the Donor Engagement team to create donor-facing materials: reports, decks, newsletters, and impact stories.
  • Support fundraising through narrative design for domestic and international donors.
  • Develop advocacy content for government and media stakeholders.
Internal Communication and Culture
  • Foster internal clarity and alignment through effective communication.
  • Drive internal newsletters and cultural storytelling.
Miscellaneous
  • Anything that organization requires in the times of ?All Hands on Deck situation? or support beyond the role when needed.
Work Experience 
Minimum 7-10 years of relevant experience in communications, media, journalism, or development storytelling,
 
Qualifications & Skills
  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Communications) preferred.
  • Strong writing and editing skills in English and Hindi (mandatory).
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft PowerPoint (mandatory).
  • Proven experience in leading communication strategies and managing teams.
  • Experience working with NGOs, foundations, or social enterprises.
  • Understanding of gender, education, and development sector in India.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Comfort in working across rural and urban contexts and multilingual settings.  
 
Location:Delhi-NCR with travel to SwaTaleem's field sites (Haryana, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh)
 
Remuneration: Compensation will be commensurate with experience and aligned with the non-profit sector standards.
