Project Summary:
CHAI and Azeem Premji Foundation in collaboration have launched a new project “VASATI” for providing palliative care services in home environment in Hyderabad and Medchal Malkajgiri districts of Telangana State. The project is aimed at enhancing the quality of life and quality of death of the people living with terminal and chronic illness and their families through home visits, community awareness & education, and networking with different stakeholders.
Job Description
The Home-Based Palliative Care Driver is responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of medical and para-medical professionals to and from patient homes and transport patients in ambulance when needed. The role ensures the team arrives on time, vehicles are maintained in top condition, and support is provided to patients and staff with empathy and respect.
Job Responsibilities:
- Safely drive staff to various home locations, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws, and local area knowledge to plan efficient routes.
- Assist in loading and unloading medical equipment, medications, and supplies into the vehicle.
- Assist frail or vulnerable patients with getting in and out of the vehicle, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and safety.
- Perform daily checks (fluids, tires, brakes, lights) to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy, clean, and sanitized.
- Maintain accurate daily logs of mileage, fuel consumption, and trip details.
- Maintain a calm when dealing with patients and families who are experiencing severe illness or bereavement.
- Adhere strictly to confidentiality protocols regarding patient information and home care plans.
- Safety Adherence: Comply with infection control procedures and health and safety policies.
Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Licensing: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Experience: Previous experience as a driver in a healthcare, social care, or professional driving setting is preferred.
- Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills to interact with medical staff and families.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to sit for long periods, as well as lift or push equipment/wheelchairs.
- Emotional Resilience: Ability to work with patients in distress and remain calm under pressure.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including potential weekends or on-call, to meet patient needs.
Personal Skills
- Should be able to communicate in Telugu and Hindi.
