1. Background
Prerana’s Aashiyana Project is part of the Transform NEEV Collective, the India chapter of the Transform Collective, which works towards preventing family–child separation and reducing unnecessary institutionalisation of children. Rooted in the principles of family responsibility and institutionalisation as a measure of last resort, the collective prioritises child and family well-being through preventive and family-based care approaches.
The Transform NEEV Collective engages children, families, communities, and a range of statutory and non-statutory stakeholders to address systemic barriers that contribute to family separation. Through collaborative engagement, capacity strengthening, and advocacy, the collective seeks to promote sustainable family and community-based care models within the child protection system.
Since its inception, Aashiyana has undergone three years of intensive programme implementation. In June 2025, the project entered its fourth year of implementation, marking a phase of consolidation, system strengthening, and inter-state engagement. This stage presents an opportunity to formally document Aashiyana’s model in a structured and transferable manner.
