Communications Officer, REACH
Based in: Chennai or remote from anywhere in India
REACH is a leading non-profit organisation working on Tuberculosis and Non-Communicable Diseases, headquartered in Chennai. Established in 1999, REACH is currently implementing multiple projects across the country, working closely with health systems and communities to advance equitable health for all.
REACH is looking to recruit a Communications Officer for the organisation, who will work closely with the management and various teams, across all projects. The Communications Officer will be responsible for day-to-day coordination of all internal and external communications for the organisation. This is an ideal position for a media or communications graduate with excellent verbal and written communication skills and an interest in public health. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Supporting in the execution of a comprehensive communications strategy
- Handling all internal and external communications at REACH including development of mailers, background materials, annual reports and other publications
- Developing and managing content and updates for various social media channels
- Developing and designing in-house, on a regular basis, short publications, posters, social media content, short films and other educational materials on TB and NCDs for different projects and audiences
- Working in close coordination with all project teams, across the organisation, to identify powerful stories
- Coordinating with external designers, agencies and production houses as required
- Drafting press releases and follow-up with the media
- Supporting with any other relevant communications work
Qualifications, Experience and competencies required:
- University degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies or related field
- Minimum 3-5 years relevant professional work experience in communications, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media preferred
- Experience in working on public health projects desirable
- Knowledge of and experience in managing digital platforms and implementing strategic social media campaigns across multiple channels
- Strong content development skills, including writing and design content across formats
- Exceptional writing skills in English essential, with an ability to generate high-quality first drafts
- Excellent design aesthetics and ability to use design software such as Canva essential
- Ability to speak Hindi fluently essential; knowledge of Tamil an asset
- Knowledge of and ability to use video editing software desirable
- Ability to effectively manage relationships and liaise with journalists and other media representatives
- High ethical standards and transparent working style
- Willingness to travel across India
