POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Company and is responsible for providing strategic, operational, financial, and organizational leadership to achieve the organization's mission, growth ambitions, and long-term sustainability.
The Executive Director will be accountable for driving organizational growth, profitability, technical excellence, innovation, stakeholder influence, and measurable health impact while ensuring effective governance, risk management, and compliance. The role requires a visionary leader with deep understanding of India's health sector, strong business and commercial acumen, proven leadership of consulting and implementation portfolios, and the ability to build trusted relationships across government, development partners, healthcare institutions, academia, private sector organizations, and investors.
The Executive Director will translate the organization's vision into sustainable growth, high-quality service delivery, innovation, thought leadership, and measurable public health outcomes while positioning the Company as a leading health systems consulting and advisory organization in India and globally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
• Lead the development and execution of the organization's long-term strategic vision, enterprise growth agenda, and institutional priorities.
• Identify emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges in health systems strengthening, healthcare delivery, digital health, artificial intelligence, health financing, climate-resilient health systems, and public health policy.
• Position the Company as a recognized thought leader through publications, research, policy engagement, technical forums, and strategic communications.
• Ensure alignment between mission impact, technical excellence, innovation, market relevance, and financial sustainability.
• Drive organizational transformation and innovation to ensure continued relevance and competitiveness in the evolving health ecosystem.
• Develop and monitor strategic performance indicators aligned to Board-approved objectives.
Business Development, Growth and Resource Mobilization
• Develop and implement strategies to expand the organization's portfolio, client base, revenue streams, and market presence.
• Build and maintain a strong pipeline of consulting, advisory, technical assistance, implementation, and research opportunities.
• Lead identification, pursuit, negotiation, and closure of high-value contracts, partnerships, and strategic investments.
• Diversify organizational revenue sources across government, philanthropic foundations, multilateral agencies, development partners, healthcare institutions, and private-sector clients.
• Establish and strengthen long-term relationships with strategic partners and clients.
• Explore new market opportunities, service lines, and innovative business models that contribute to sustainable growth.
Programme, Technical and Innovation Leadership
• Provide strategic oversight to a diverse portfolio of consulting, advisory, implementation, and technical assistance engagements.
• Ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, client-centered, and outcome-driven solutions.
• Promote innovation through integration of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, analytics, data-driven decision making, and emerging health solutions.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge generation, learning, and quality assurance.
• Lead the development of new technical service offerings in response to emerging sector needs.
• Ensure organizational approaches integrate principles of inclusion, equity, sustainability, and measurable impact.
Financial Leadership and Enterprise Performance
• Maintain full accountability for organizational financial performance, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
• Lead annual business planning, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and resource allocation processes.
• Monitor organizational revenue, profitability, utilization rates, operating margins, and business performance against approved targets.
• Drive strategic investments that support organizational growth, innovation, capability development, and enterprise value creation.
• Ensure efficient utilization of resources and implementation of effective financial controls.
• Present accurate financial and business performance updates to the Board.
Organizational Leadership and Talent Development
• Build and lead a high-performing multidisciplinary workforce across technical, advisory, operational, and support functions.
• Develop a strong leadership team capable of scaling organizational operations and delivering sustainable growth.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, inclusion, integrity, and excellence.
• Lead succession planning, leadership development, and talent management initiatives.
• Ensure organizational systems, structures, policies, and processes support growth and operational effectiveness.
• Champion employee engagement, wellbeing, and continuous professional development.
Stakeholder Engagement, Brand and External Representation
• Serve as the principal spokesperson and ambassador of the organization.
• Represent the Company at national and international forums, conferences, policy dialogues, industry events, and technical platforms.
• Build strong relationships with senior government officials, development partners, healthcare leaders, academic institutions, investors, and private-sector stakeholders.
• Lead external communications, reputation management, and brand positioning initiatives.
• Strengthen the Company’s visibility, influence, credibility, and recognition as a trusted health systems advisory organization.
• Advocate for evidence-based health policies and systems strengthening approaches that contribute to improved health outcomes.
Governance, Risk Management and Compliance
• Work closely with the Board of Directors to establish strategic priorities, performance expectations, and organizational goals.
• Support the Board and its committees through strategic planning, organizational performance reporting, governance reviews, and decision-making processes.
• Establish and oversee an Enterprise Risk Management framework covering strategic, operational, financial, regulatory, cybersecurity, reputational, and business continuity risks.
• Lead organizational crisis preparedness and business continuity planning.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, corporate, contractual, and statutory requirements.
• Promote the highest standards of ethics, transparency, accountability, and professional conduct.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
• Postgraduate degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Health Policy, Medicine, Management, Economics, Development Studies, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15-20 years of progressive leadership experience within public health, health systems, healthcare consulting, development sector, healthcare delivery, or related fields.
• Proven track record of securing and managing large-scale consulting, advisory, technical assistance, research, implementation, or grant-funded programmes.
• Demonstrated experience engaging with government health systems at national and state levels in India.
• Strong experience in business development, client acquisition, market expansion, and strategic partnership development.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments.
• Strong understanding of India's healthcare ecosystem, public health priorities, health policy environment, and health systems architecture.
• Demonstrated financial, operational, strategic, and organizational leadership capabilities.
Preferred
• MD, MPH, DrPH, MBA, PhD, or equivalent advanced qualification.
• Previous experience serving as CEO, Executive Director, Managing Director, Country Director, Partner, Practice Leader, or equivalent executive leadership role.
• Experience working with multilateral agencies, bilateral donors, philanthropic foundations, impact investors, or international development organizations.
• Demonstrated experience scaling organizations, leading institutional transformation, or managing significant organizational growth.
• Experience working directly with Boards of Directors and governance committees.
• Established professional networks across government, academia, health systems, development partners, and healthcare institutions.
