TENDER NOTICE
Background:
- Safe management of greywater is an emerging priority under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase II, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and the Government of Uttar Pradesh's rural sanitation agenda. While significant progress has been made in providing household tap water connections, the increased availability of water has also resulted in a substantial rise in domestic greywater generation.
- In many rural areas, including Gram Panchayat Marufpur, untreated greywater from kitchens, bathrooms and washing areas is discharged into village ponds and open drains. Continuous discharge has led to stagnant wastewater, foul odour, mosquito breeding, deterioration of pond ecology, and increased public health risks.
- A decentralized treatment approach (DEWATS) offers a sustainable, low-energy and community-managed solution for treating domestic greywater before it enters natural water bodies. The treated water can be safely discharged or reused for plantation, irrigation and groundwater recharge.
- WaterAid India proposes to construct two DEWATS systems in a collaborative approach at the identified greywater discharge locations in Gram Panchayat Marufpur.
