About the Hiring Organisation
 
Our client is an established organisation working in career guidance and education, helping students make informed decisions about education, career choices and future pathways through structured counselling, assessments, technology-enabled career guidance and school-based interventions.
For a large-scale programme in Punjab, the organisation is building a district-level team of Career Counsellors to work with students in government schools.
About the Programme s Role
 
The programme is being implemented across all 23 districts of Punjab, with one Career Counsellor planned for each district. Each counsellor will work with assigned government schools within the respective district, initially engaging primarily with Class 10 students.
 
The Career Counsellor will support students in understanding their interests, abilities, educational choices and possible career pathways through structured counselling, assessments and individual/group engagement.
 
The overall intervention is currently planned for approximately three years. Employment will be contractual, with the contract expected to be renewed annually based on project/business requirements.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Visit assigned government schools within the allocated district and engage with students as per the programme plan.
  • Conduct career counselling and guidance sessions and help students understand their interests, strengths, educational options and possible career pathways.
  • Conduct or facilitate career assessments using tools and processes provided by the organisation.
  • Conduct individual and group-based counselling/student engagement sessions, including career awareness and classroom/group sessions.
  • Use prescribed digital career counselling tools and platforms and maintain required student records, counselling information and programme documentation.
  • Complete attendance, reporting and other programme-related requirements through prescribed systems.
  • Coordinate with the programme team, assigned schools and relevant stakeholders and follow the counselling framework, processes and materials provided by the organisation.
Qualification s Experience
 
Preference will be given to candidates with educational backgrounds relevant to career/student counselling and education, including Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Education / Guidance C Counselling, Human Development, or other closely related disciplines.
 
Candidates with a Master's degree in a relevant field, including suitable freshers, may be considered. Candidates from other academic backgrounds may also be evaluated where they have strong and directly relevant experience working with students in counselling, career guidance, teaching/student engagement, mentoring or similar education-focused roles.
 
Relevant experience may include career counselling, student/school counselling, education counselling, student mentoring, teaching with significant student-guidance responsibilities, counselling/engagement in coaching or educational institutions, career awareness or youth guidance programmes, and similar student-facing roles.
 
Skills s Competencies
  • Genuine interest in working with school students, with good counselling, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with young students and conduct both one-to-one and group interactions.
  • Confidence in facilitating classroom/group sessions and communicating career information in a simple, student-friendly manner.
  • Understanding of education and career pathways, with willingness to learn structured career counselling and assessment tools.
  • Basic digital and documentation skills, professional conduct and ability to work independently in a field-based environment.
  • Interest in developing a longer-term career in career guidance and education.
Language Requirements
  • Good communication skills in Punjabi are required due to regular interaction with school students in Punjab.
  • Working communication ability in English is required.
  • Familiarity with the local environment and context of Punjab will be important.
Field, Travel s Technology Requirements
  • This is a regular field-based position involving school visits and local travel within the assigned district.
  • Candidates should preferably have their own two-wheeler or be able to manage regular field travel independently.
  • Candidates must have their own laptop and be comfortable using digital platforms and reporting systems required for the programme.
  • Local travel expenses will be reimbursed separately as per actuals and the organisation's applicable policy.
Training s Support
 
Selected candidates will receive initial training before independently undertaking the role. The training will introduce them to the programme, career counselling approach, assessment processes, relevant tools and technology, student-engagement practices and required documentation.
The organisation will provide the relevant career counselling framework, assessment tools and programme materials required for the assignment.
Compensation s Employment Terms
 
Compensation: Up to ?3.6 LPA, depending on the candidate's profile and final selection.
 
Travel Reimbursement: Separate, against actual applicable expenses and as per the organisation's reimbursement policy.
 
Employment Type: Full-time, contractual.
 
Contract: The overall programme is currently planned as a three-year intervention; employment contracts are expected to be renewed annually based on project/business requirements.
Locations – Punjab
 
Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Mansa, Moga, Pathankot, Patiala, Rupnagar, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (SAS Nagar), Sangrur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Tarn Taran.
 
Candidates may indicate more than one district in order of preference, provided they are genuinely comfortable working in those locations.
 
Selection Process
 
Application Review → BHRS Screening s Orientation → Profile Recommendation → Hiring Organisation Interviews → Final Selection
 
BHRS will initially assess candidates for educational background, relevant experience, communication skills, student-engagement ability, location suitability, field readiness and overall alignment with the role. Candidates shortlisted and recommended by BHRS are currently expected to undergo two rounds of interviews with the hiring organisation.
