The organisation: Unnati Institute for Social and Educational change (Unnati ISEC) a Maharashtra based 12 years old not for profit entity works with a mission to improve access to formal school education in order to realise the fundamental right of all children to quality education. It is focusing mainly on SDG 4 i.e. quality education.
In Maharashtra, Unnati is a pioneer of using Multi Lingual Education (MLE) Approach in the public education system, which strives for inclusion of diversity of languages and lives in the education process.
Presently, we have four programmes. 1) Pedagogy development for literacy and education, rooted in the approach of Multi lingual Education 2) Library programme in schools for children 3) Village library programme in the villages 4) Personality development of youths from tribal communities
The work is carried out at two locations in the tribal geography – Akot block (Akola district in Vidarbha region) and Shahapur (Thane district near Mumbai) in the state of Maharashtra, India.
Primarily, women headed, value-based organization is run by very well intended, committed professional people. The team consists of 18 people, including full time staff and consultants.

The Position: We’re looking for a full time Associate Coordinator for our flagship program, School and village library which we implement for children and people from tribal communities.
The programme: The programme focuses on creating a reading culture in tribal communities. We believe that creating a culture of reading and thinking in villages through libraries will encourage people to understand and engage with the world and develop critical thinking, which will empower them to transform their lives. It is possible that the tribal communities get insights and motivation of transferring their knowledge areas from oral to written formats. The reading culture in villages ultimately plays a role in children’s education.
We also believe that reading habits in children is a path to empowerment, as it paves the way to self learning, familiarization with the written language which is a base of higher education. Reading habits also facilitate development of children’s language and other mental skills like imagination, creativity, critical thinking, which are nowadays considered as 21st century skills.
Unnati’s thrust is doing deep work on a small scale, developing perspective, creating executive models and designing & delivering training to organisations for scaling the programme. We also thrust on dialogue with the policy makers for improving the education system.

Office base:
Shenve village in Shahapur district of Thane OR Ruikhed village in Akot Tehsil of Akola district.

Key Responsibilities
Academic and pedagogic guidance to the school and village library programme
Follow the existing systems of the organisation installed for smooth functioning of the work.
Design studies and surveys required for ensuring desired outcomes of the library programme.
Contribute to developing guidebooks and training modules for internal staff on the library programme
Provide inputs to strengthen the database of the organisation, maintain and analyse the data, make reports from it and review the strategy and work based on the data received.
Facilitate workshops and Enable teachers to develop and conduct effective lessons through on-site/distance coaching
Identify and involve into the professional learning circles of NGOs for the library
Identify capacity building needs of the staff of the library programme
Management of book collection
Write blog posts, social media posts and other write ups for the program on bi-weekly basis.

Essential Qualifications
Master Degree (Education, Social Work, Sociology will be an added advantage)
5-7 years’ experience in the library field in the area of implementation / curricular design
Completing the course in library educator is recommended

Language proficiency:
Skills in reading Marathi, Hindi and English.
Skills in writing in Marathi and Hindi are essential.
Skills in speaking Marathi and Hindi are essential.
Knowledge of any tribal language is an added advantage.

Travel:
Travel by bus / railways within the state is essential.

Values:

Computer skills (proficiency in MS Office, excel, google drive)
Listening skills

Remuneration: INR Between 25,000-32,000 depending upon qualification and experience)
