- Good working knowledge of spreadsheets, documents, presentations, email and digital data or monitoring tools.
- Willingness to travel frequently within Purulia and spend substantial time in field locations.
Desirable experience and skills
- Experience with Gram Sabha or Panchayati Raj institutions, women’s collectives, self-help groups, youth groups, community-based organisations or customary tribal institutions.
- Understanding of climate-smart agriculture, water conservation, disaster preparedness, community adaptation, indigenous knowledge, gender and climate justice.
- Experience in monitoring and evaluation, pre/post assessments, outcome tracking, data quality, case-study documentation and preparation of donor or programme reports.
- Experience coordinating with government officials, line departments, civil society organisations, technical agencies and other stakeholders.
- Strong facilitation, team supervision, problem-solving and written documentation skills.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare detailed monthly and quarterly implementation plans and coordinate field delivery across the project’s target villages and Gram Sabha clusters in Purulia.
- Coordinate climate education activities covering climate-smart agriculture, water conservation and disaster preparedness, including mobilisation, workshop logistics, training follow-up and pre/post assessments.
- Coordinate gender-responsive and socially inclusive activities with Gram Sabha leaders and diverse community groups, ensuring equitable participation, representation and leadership across gender, age, disability and differing physical, mental and intellectual abilities, while addressing social norms and barriers that may lead to discrimination or exclusion.
- Coordinate community media activities with the Community Media Producer, including training of community women, production and dissemination of Santali radio content, participatory video documentation and village screenings.
- Facilitate participatory village planning processes, including Gram Sabha workshops, focus group discussions, resource mapping and documentation of indigenous coping practices, and support preparation, validation and periodic review of Village Climate Resilience Plans.
- Coordinate community-led adaptation activities such as technical assessments, rainwater-harvesting initiatives, community seed banks, nursery/model-farm activities and development of community management protocols, in coordination with relevant technical persons and community institutions.
- Organise multi-stakeholder climate forums and orientation sessions involving Gram Sabha representatives, women and youth, Panchayats, block/district officials and other decision-makers; maintain clear minutes, action points and follow-up records.
- Support evidence gathering, drafting and dissemination of policy briefs, Gram Sabha resolutions and community proposals; coordinate submissions and advocacy follow-up with Panchayats and relevant line departments.
- Track whether community proposals and adaptation priorities are taken up by government or external agencies, and document outcomes, official responses and case studies.
- Support partnership management, joint stakeholder meetings and documentation required to activate or formalise collaborations that can sustain or scale successful climate initiatives.
- Supervise and support community mobilisers and coordinate closely with the Programme Director, Gender and Training Specialist, Community Media Producer, finance/admin teams and other project personnel.
- Maintain activity records, participant data, sex-disaggregated reach, participation of marginalised groups and decision-makers, expenditure-related documentation, photographs, attendance records, outputs and other supporting evidence.
- Monitor progress against the approved workplan, logic model, indicators and budget; identify delays or implementation risks early and prepare corrective action plans with the project leadership.
- Prepare high-quality monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports, including progress against activities and outcomes, gender mainstreaming, challenges, learning, evidence and communications outputs required by the donor.
- Ensure respectful, ethical and culturally appropriate engagement with tribal communities and that project activities reflect community priorities and strengthen local ownership.
What will make you effective in this role
- You can move between village-level implementation and structured reporting without losing detail.
- You are comfortable facilitating meetings with community members as well as following up with government officials and partner organisations.
- You can manage several activities at the same time, keep documentation current and hold a field team accountable to timelines and quality standards.
- You understand that climate justice work requires women’s participation, community voice and local institutions to shape decisions, not simply attend project events.
- You can navigate power and influence while creating space for less-heard and neglected voices to be heard and meaningfully represented in decision-making
