South Kolkata Hamari Muskan (SKHM) is implementing a project in the Bowbazar red-light area to support adult women and young women from vulnerable communities in accessing safer livelihood and employment opportunities.

The project will support 50 adult women through alternative livelihood and enterprise development and 30 young women through job-readiness, digital literacy and skill-development pathways. The project also recognizes the psychosocial challenges, stigma and pressures faced by participants as they work towards greater independence and economic security.

South Kolkata Hamari Muskan (SKHM) is looking for a Communicative Skill Development Trainer to conduct regular sessions for adult women (age 30 to 45 years and above) from vulnerable communities in the Bowbazar red-light area as part of a livelihood development programme.The participants will have varied educational backgrounds and levels of literacy, confidence and prior exposure to formal learning. The trainer will therefore need to use practical and accessible methods to help women develop communication skills that can support their participation in livelihood activities and everyday interactions.

Key responsibilities:

Conduct regular communicative skill development classes for adult women.
Develop basic spoken English and everyday communication skills according to participants' existing abilities.
Use simple, practical and participatory teaching methods suitable for semi-literate and differently educated learners.
Encourage participants to communicate with greater confidence in social, community and livelihood-related situations.
Provide individual attention and additional support to participants who require it.
Adapt teaching methods according to the needs and pace of the group.
Coordinate with the SKHM team regarding attendance, participation and progress.
Maintain regularity and punctuality in conducting classes.
Work respectfully and sensitively with women from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.

Requirements:

Strong communication and spoken English skills.
Experience in teaching or facilitating communication skills.
Ability to work patiently with adult learners with varied literacy and educational levels.
Good interpersonal skills and an encouraging, non-judgmental approach.
Experience working with vulnerable or disadvantaged communities will be an advantage.
Reliability and punctuality.

Location: Bowbazar, Kolkata
Engagement: Part-time / consultant basis / once or twice in a week.
