About Centre for Commercial Determinants of Health (C-CDOH) at IPH:
 
The Centre for Commercial Determinants of Health (C-CDOH) builds on and expands nearly two decades of research and action by the Institute in the areas of tobacco control and prevention of non-communicable diseases. The Centre focuses on how commercial activities, corporate practices, markets, and broader economic structures influence health and health inequities through social, cultural, environmental, and political pathways. It aims to promote commercial and economic policies and practices that advance health and health equity.
 
About the role:
 
The Research Fellow (Medical) will provide scientific and technical leadership for a project nested within the Centre for Commercial Determinants of Health, supporting the Principal Investigator and the project lead in planning, implementation, and coordination. The role will oversee research activities, data quality and analysis, supervise project staff, and coordinate with collaborating institutions, government departments, and other stakeholders. The incumbent will contribute to the development of the surveillance framework, technical and scientific outputs, stakeholder consultations, and dissemination activities, while ensuring ethical, regulatory, financial, and project compliance. 
 
Education Qualification:
 
MBBS/BDS or equivalent qualification with a postgraduate degree in MD/MDS/MPH or equivalent; and PhD in a relevant field. 
 
Work Experience:
 
Minimum 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience is a must.
 
Essential Requirements:      
  •     Demonstrated scientific leadership and ability to independently manage complex research activities.
  •     Strong project planning, coordination, and team management skills.
  •     Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  •     Excellent written and verbal communication, scientific writing and presentation skills
  •     Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders.
  •     Ability to manage multiple work packages simultaneously and deliver high-quality outputs within timelines
  •     Commitment to ethical research conduct and maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity.
  •     Must have published scientific papers in reputed journals.
  •     Must have presented study findings in National/International conferences.       
Desirable Requirements:
  •     Advanced training or experience in Public Health, Epidemiology, Community Medicine, Health Systems Research, Health Policy or Implementation Research.
  •     Experience in leading multi-site public health research projects or large-scale field surveys.
  •     Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods, data analysis and interpretation.
  •     Experience working with national health datasets such as NFHS, NSS or similar large-scale surveys. 
  •     Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement with government agencies, academic institutions and civil society organizations. 
  •     Experience in scientific writing, including preparation of peer-reviewed publications, technical reports and policy briefs. 
  •     Experience in mentoring research staff and supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  •     Excellent communication, coordination and project management skills. 
Job location:
 
The position is based in Bangalore. With frequent travel to project sites across Kerala, Gujarat, Bihar and Tripura.
 
Roles and Responsibilities:   
  •     Provide scientific and technical leadership for the implementation of the DISHA project across all work packages.
  •     Support the Principal Investigator in project planning, coordination, monitoring, and timely execution of project activities.
  •     Ensure adherence to study protocols, project timelines, ethical standards, and ICMR guidelines.
  •     Provide technical oversight for field implementation, data collection, quality assurance and data management activities.
  •     Supervise and mentor Senior Project Associate, field investigators and other project personnel.
  •     Oversee the quality, integrity, and timely completion of quantitative and qualitative research activities.
  •     Lead the analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data generated through the project.
  •     Contribute to the development, validation and refinement of the integrated surveillance framework for incorporating commercial and policy determinants into NCD      surveillance.
  •     Ensure scientific rigour in study design, analysis and interpretation of findings.
  •     Coordinate with collaborating institutions, government agencies, technical experts and other stakeholders throughout the project.
  •     Lead the preparation of technical reports, policy briefs, scientific manuscripts, conference presentations and other dissemination materials.
  •     Support stakeholder consultations, expert meetings, ethics and regulatory compliance, project monitoring, financial and technical reporting, and dissemination of        project findings.  
Duration:
 
The duration of the employment will be for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and extension of the project and availability of funds. 
 
Age Limit:
 
Candidates applying for this position shall not exceed 45 years of age.
 
Remuneration:
 
The CTC starts at around INR 85,000/- per month. The final salary will be mapped as per the institutional pay matrix based on the candidate's relevant qualifications and experience.
