Position: Project Coordinator
Base Location: Tamil Nadu, with regular travel within project locations, preferable in Ambur
About Us:
SLD works closely with women workers in seafood processing and allied sectors, with a strong emphasis on labour rights, gender justice, occupational health, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Established in 2006, SLD has a pan-India presence, with physical offices in seven states and nationwide work carried out through collaborations with like-minded organizations.
Our work is grounded in long-term community engagement, research and documentation, capacity building, and the promotion of feminist leadership. In addition to advocacy and awareness-raising, SLD provides direct support to workers through legal aid, psycho-social counselling, non-formal adult literacy, and skill development programs. Our action-research focuses on the most pressing and complex issues faced by workers across multiple industries within the global supply chain.
About the Programme
The programme aims to strengthen community-based systems that enable workers in leather, footwear and leather goods supply chains to access information, counselling, grievance redressal and relevant social protection services.
The programme will strengthen and further develop the role of Worker Resource Centres (WRCs) and community-based contact points as accessible, worker-centred spaces. The approach will combine worker outreach, mapping, information dissemination, capacity development, grievance and case support, referrals and networking with relevant institutions and stakeholders.
The programme will also strengthen the capacities of WRC staff, community leaders and local contact persons through training, peer learning, practical learning and continuous capacity development.
Position Type: Full-Time, Project Based and Fixed Term Contract
Contract Period – 1 year, 6 months’ probation period.

Purpose of the Position
The Project Coordinator will lead the coordination and implementation of SLD's Tamil Nadu component of the programme. The position will provide strategic and operational support for mapping, worker engagement, strengthening of WRCs and community-based contact points, grievance and redress systems, capacity building, stakeholder engagement and programme learning.
The Project Coordinator will ensure that the programme remains community-based, worker-centred and responsive to the needs of workers across the leather, footwear and leather goods sector, while remaining aligned with the overall programme objectives and available resources.
1. Key Responsibilities
A. Programme Planning and Coordination
- Coordinate the planning, implementation and monitoring of SLD's Tamil Nadu programme activities.
- Develop activity plans, field plans and implementation schedules in coordination with the Project Team.
- Ensure timely implementation of programme activities, workshops, trainings, worker outreach and other interventions.
- Coordinate with SLD leadership and relevant programme partners on implementation, reporting and learning.
- Ensure that programme activities remain aligned with agreed objectives, targets and approaches.
B. Mapping and Context Analysis
- Lead and participate in mapping of workers, workplaces, supply-chain actors, community structures, service providers and relevant institutions in Tamil Nadu.
- Contribute to identifying worker groups and communities connected to leather, footwear and leather goods supply chains.
- Map existing community-based organisations, worker groups, local contact persons, government services and referral mechanisms.
- Use mapping findings to inform worker outreach, WRC strengthening, community contact points and grievance/redress mechanisms.
- Regularly update the mapping based on field experience and emerging programme needs.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Master's degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Labour Studies, Sociology, Law, Rural/Urban Development or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional qualifications and experience will also be considered.
Experience
- 5–7 years of relevant professional experience in community development, worker-focused programmes, social protection, grievance and redress systems, labour-related programmes or related development work.
- Experience in community-based programme implementation and worker engagement.
- Experience in mapping, field-based assessment or community outreach.
- Experience in training, facilitation and/or Training of Trainers.
- Experience working with grassroots organisations, community groups, government institutions or development partners.
- Experience in grievance documentation, case management, referrals or worker support will be an advantage.
- Experience in the leather, footwear, leather goods or related sectors, particularly in Tamil Nadu, will be an advantage.
- Good knowledge of applicable labour codes, social security systems and relevant government welfare schemes.
- Strong understanding of community-based approaches and capacity development.
