Position: Field Coordinator
 
Base Location: Ambur, Tamil Nadu, with regular field travel
 
About Us:
SLD works closely with women workers in seafood processing and allied sectors, with a strong emphasis on labour rights, gender justice, occupational health, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Established in 2006, SLD has a pan-India presence, with physical offices in seven states and nationwide work carried out through collaborations with like-minded organizations.
 
Our work is grounded in long-term community engagement, research and documentation, capacity building, and the promotion of feminist leadership. In addition to advocacy and awareness-raising, SLD provides direct support to workers through legal aid, psycho-social counselling, non-formal adult literacy, and skill development programs. Our action-research focuses on the most pressing and complex issues faced by workers across multiple industries within the global supply chain.

Position Type: Full-Time, Project Based and Fixed Term Contract
 
Contract Period – 1 year, 6 months’ probation period.

1. Purpose of the Position
 
The Field Coordinator will support the implementation of the Tamil Nadu component of the programme through direct field engagement with workers, communities and local stakeholders.
 
The position will focus on worker outreach, community mobilisation, mapping, strengthening of WRCs and community-based contact points, grievance identification and referral, social protection linkages, worker education, training support and field-level documentation.
 
The Field Coordinator will work closely with Field Workers, community leaders and local contact persons to ensure that workers can access relevant information, services and grievance/redress mechanisms.
 
2. Key Responsibilities
 
A. Field Planning and Coordination
  • Coordinate day-to-day field implementation in assigned project locations.
  • Develop field plans in coordination with the Project Coordinator.
  • Organise worker meetings, community outreach, training sessions and awareness activities.
  • Coordinate with Field Workers and provide regular guidance and support.
  • Ensure timely completion of field activities and agreed targets.
B. Worker Outreach and Community Mobilisation
  • Develop relationships with workers, worker groups, community leaders and grassroots organisations.
  • Conduct regular worker and community meetings.
  • Facilitate information and awareness sessions for workers.
  • Encourage workers to access grievance, social protection and other relevant support systems.
  • Ensure meaningful participation of women workers and marginalised groups.
Qualifications and Experience
 
Education
  • Graduate degree in Social Work, Sociology, Development Studies, Labour Studies, Rural/Urban Development or a related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field will be an advantage.
Experience
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience for graduates, or 3–5 years of relevant experience for postgraduates.
  • Relevant experience may include community development, worker engagement, social protection, grievance and redress systems, labour-related programmes or related development work.
  • Experience in community mobilisation, field outreach and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in mapping and field-based information gathering.
  • Experience in conducting or supporting training and awareness programmes.
  • Experience working with grassroots organisations, worker groups or government institutions will be an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of applicable labour codes, social security systems and relevant government welfare schemes.
  • Experience in the leather, footwear or leather goods sector will be an advantage.
