About Milaan
Milaan is a non-profit working with adolescent girls from low-income communities so that they can stay in school, delay early marriage, and grow up with voice, choice and opportunities. Our work is anchored in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and is built in partnership with communities, schools and government systems.
We are now entering a new phase of growth where strong, values-aligned CSR partnerships in India will be central to our ability to reach millions of girls over the next decade.
Role Purpose
The Senior Manager – Strategic Partnerships will lead Milaan’s India CSR and philanthropic fundraising efforts.
She will be responsible for building and managing deep, multi?year partnerships with Indian foundations and companies under the Companies Act CSR framework, and for leading a small team to deliver ambitious but realistic annual fundraising targets.
This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys being in conversation with foundation leaders and CSR heads, translating social change into clear partnership offers, and staying close to both numbers and relationships.
Responsibilities
Fundraising and partnership development
- Build and manage a robust pipeline of prospects (Indian family foundations, companies and corporate foundations) aligned to Milaan’s mission (education, gender equality, adolescent girls, youth leadership, skills and livelihoods).
- Lead the full cycle of fundraising – research, outreach, meetings, proposal development, budgeting, negotiations and closure – with clear annual and multi?year targets.
- Design and package Milaan’s programmes in ways that respond to donor priorities (focus areas, geography, employee engagement, brand alignment) without diluting our core intent and model.
- Build long-term, organisation?level partnerships rather than one?off project grants, with clear renewal pathways and account plans.
Account management and donor stewardship
- Serve as primary relationship owner for key partners; create simple, predictable rhythms of communication (check?ins, field visits, reviews).
- Coordinate with programmes, MEL and finance to ensure that commitments made to partners are realistic and are being delivered.
- Lead the development of high?quality reports, decks and stories that speak to both compliance requirements and genuine impact on girls and communities.
- Proactively identify opportunities to deepen or expand existing partnerships (renewals, scaling to new geographies, new thematic lines).
CSR compliance and internal systems
- Stay updated on CSR regulations and trends under Section 135 of the Companies Act, Schedule VII and CSR Rules, and help the team interpret what this means for programme design and reporting.
- Work with finance and legal to ensure that all CSR partnerships are compliant in terms of agreements, utilisation reporting, audits and other statutory requirements from the company’s perspective.
- Strengthen internal fundraising systems – pipeline tracking, documentation, dashboards, standard proposal and reporting templates.
Team leadership and collaboration
- Manage, mentor and support a two?member fundraising team (currently focused on proposals, research and donor servicing), helping them grow in confidence and craft.
- Work closely with the Communications team to create donor?relevant collaterals – cases for support, decks, videos, event briefs – that carry Milaan’s voice clearly.
- Collaborate with programme and MEL teams to shape fundable ideas rooted in field realities rather than donor?first projects.
Required experience
- 7–10 years of total work experience, with at least 5 years in CSR fundraising / corporate partnerships / business development in the development sector in India, with a clear track record of raising CSR funds.
- Demonstrated experience of independently closing donor partnerships (including prospecting, negotiations and contracting) in the range of at least ?50 lakh+ per grant; comfort working towards annual revenue targets.
- Strong understanding of India’s donor ecosystem – Section 135, Schedule VII focus areas, typical approval processes inside companies, and reporting/compliance expectations.
- Prior experience managing or mentoring a small team is strongly preferred.
- Experience in the education, gender, youth, or community development space is highly desirable.
Skills and mindset
- Ability to listen deeply to what donor partners care about and connect it honestly with what Milaan can offer – without over?promising.
- Strong relationship?building skills and comfort engaging with senior leaders in companies.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English; working proficiency in Hindi.
- Strong proposal writing and storytelling abilities – able to move between a detailed logframe and a simple one?page pitch.
- Comfort working with numbers: budgets, multi?year projections, basic unit economics, and fundraising dashboards.
- A grounded understanding of field realities and a genuine commitment to feminist, girl?centred and rights?based approaches.
- Self?driven, organised, able to manage multiple relationships and deadlines without losing warmth or integrity.
Education
Post?graduate degree in management, social work, development, public policy or related fields preferred; strong relevant experience can compensate for formal qualifications.
Work environment
Based in Delhi, with regular travel to programme locations in UP/MP and to CSR partners across India.
Milaan is an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourages women and people from under?represented communities to apply. We are driven by values of empathy, respect, diversity, integrity, innovation, inclusion, and excellence in execution.
