About the gig and platform workers component:
The gig and platform workers component focus on strengthening the resilience, well-being, and social protection of gig and platform workers, including last-mile delivery workers, rideshare drivers, and other workers engaged through digital and platform-based employment models. The component seeks to address the distinctive vulnerabilities faced by these workers, including exposure to extreme weather, and limited access to social security etc.

Under the MRC, Jan Sahas works to develop and implement solutions that enable gig and platform workers to access essential social protection, and build greater resilience to climate and livelihood risks. The component combines direct worker engagement, partnerships with platforms and other ecosystem stakeholders, and the development and implementation of practical solutions that respond to workers’ needs at scale.

The component involves key areas of implementation including:
  • Worker resilience and well-being: Developing and implementing solutions that help workers cope with extreme weather, fatigue, and other challenges associated with platform-based work.
  • Social protection access: Facilitating workers’ access to government social security schemes, entitlements, insurance, and other relevant benefits through awareness, demand identification, application facilitation, and last-mile support.
  • Worker engagement and outreach: Building mechanisms for sustained engagement with gig and platform workers to understand their needs, identify emerging vulnerabilities, and strengthen access to relevant services and support.
  • Partnerships and ecosystem engagement: Working closely with platform companies, government institutions, local stakeholders, service providers, and other partners to develop scalable and sustainable solutions for gig and platform workers.
  • Evidence, learning and scale: Documenting implementation learnings, generating evidence, and using insights from worker engagement to strengthen programme design, influence systems, and inform scalable approaches for improving worker resilience and social protection.
  • The component requires strong programme and operations management to ensure that interventions are effectively designed, implemented, monitored, and continuously improved. It also requires working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality implementation, timely delivery, effective coordination, and responsiveness to the evolving needs of gig and platform workers.
Key Responsibilities
The Program Lead will be responsible for the following activities to advance the objectives of the component:

Project Planning and Implementation:
  • Lead the planning and execution of initiatives under the Gig & Platform Workers component, translating strategic priorities into clear implementation plans, milestones, resource requirements, and deliverables.
  • Drive end to end programme implementation in coordination with internal teams, platform companies, government stakeholders, and other ecosystem actors, ensuring timely and effective delivery.
  • Track programme progress, budgets, milestones, and outcomes. Identify implementation challenges and proactively resolve bottlenecks while ensuring quality and adherence to agreed standards.
  • Facilitate regular reviews, capture worker and field-level insights, and use data and implementation learnings to adapt interventions, strengthen programme effectiveness, and inform scale up and replication.
Monitoring, Reporting and Learning:
  • Track implementation against agreed timelines, milestones, and deliverables through effective project trackers and monitoring systems.
  • Work with the MEL team to monitor relevant indicators, review centre-level data, and use insights to strengthen implementation.
  • Prepare timely reports and updates and document key challenges, learnings, and good practices.
Financial and Administrative Coordination:
  • Support effective planning and utilisation of project budgets and monitor expenditure related to centre establishment and operations.
  • Coordinate with finance, administration, and procurement teams to ensure timely completion of operational and administrative requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Jan Sahas policies and project requirements across financial and administrative processes.
Experience and Qualification:
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Rural Development, Public Policy, Management, Social Sciences, or another relevant field, with 5–8 years of relevant experience in programme implementation, project management, or operations.
  • Experience managing multi-location projects, field operations, centre-based programmes, infrastructure setup, or service delivery programmes will be preferred.
  • Experience working with NGOs, CSR programmes, philanthropic organisations, corporate partners, and multiple external stakeholders will be an advantage; proficiency in MS Office and strong English and Hindi communication skills are essential.
Inter-personal Skills:
  • Strong programme and operations management, leadership, problem-solving, and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, and team coordination skills, with high levels of ownership and accountability.
  • Strong field orientation and empathy towards migrant and informal workers, with willingness to travel extensively.
We Encourage You to Apply If:
  • You are passionate about improving the dignity, safety, and well-being of migrant and informal workers and have strong programme and operational management capabilities. You are comfortable managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, tight implementation timelines, infrastructure and operational requirements, and field-based teams.
