Counsel to Secure Justice works to ensure access to justice for children on both sides of the law and strengthening Child Protection System.

CSJ is looking for a Counsellor (Part-Time) to support the implementation of the Project at Government Observation Home, Jaipur.
Job Description: Counsellor
Location: Jaipur, Rajasthan
Duration: 12 Months
Reporting To: Programme officer
Employment Type: Part-Time
Remuneration: Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with industry standards and relevant work experience.

Role description:
The counsellor will be responsible for the conducting individual and group counselling sessions and psychosocial support to the children in conflict with law, boys residing in the government observation and children home with focus on the providing mental health support, emotional wellbeing, coping mechanism and personal development. The role will involve conducting psychosocial assessment, identifying the concerning emotional and behavioural concerns, developing support plans, maintaining records and ensure potential referral for specialised help where required.
The counsellor will be working in collaboration with the CSJ social worker, families, childcare institution, Juvenile Justice board, District child Protection Unit, and other relevant government departments to ensure supportive, safe and child centric environment for children in conflict with law.

Key Responsibilities
1. Identification and Assessment
* Identify children for mental health support through screening, observations, referrals, and regular interactions.
* Identify children requiring specialised mental health or psychiatric support and facilitate timely referrals to appropriate service providers with coordination with CCI Person in charge and JJBs.
* Conduct psychosocial assessments to understand children's emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs.
* Develop individualized counselling and support plans based on assessment findings.
2. Individual and Group Counselling
* Understanding of trauma informed and child centric approach with the ability of creating safe and non-judgmental space for children.
* Conduct need-based individual and family counselling sessions using appropriate counselling approaches and techniques.
* Support children in addressing a range of emotional, behavioural, interpersonal, family and adjustment-related concerns, while strengthening their coping skills, emotional wellbeing and overall psychosocial development.
Monitor progress through follow-up sessions and modify the counselling approach or
facilitate specialised referral where required.
* Identify common emotional and behavioural concerns among children and develop ageappropriate group counselling sessions around these needs.
* Facilitate group counselling sessions focusing on emotional well-being, resilience, coping mechanisms, conflict resolution, behaviour management, interpersonal skills and overall psychosocial development.
* Coordinate with the Social Worker to understand family-related concerns affecting the child's emotional wellbeing and rehabilitation.
* Provide counselling to children and families, where required, to improve communication, address conflicts and prepare them for reintegration.

3. Mental Health Promotion and Child Engagement
* Design and facilitate structured therapeutic, art based and creative activities, life skills sessions, and recreational interventions to promote mental health and psychosocial wellbeing.
* Plan and conduct age-appropriate awareness, psycho educational sessions on emotional,
behavioural, social and psychosocial wellbeing based on the need and interest of the
children.
4. Stakeholder Coordination
* Establish linkages with appropriate psychologists, psychiatrists, mental-health facilities and
other specialised services for cases beyond routine counselling support.
* Coordinate with the Government Observation and Children Home, Juvenile Justice Board
(JJB), Child Welfare Committee (where applicable), District Child Protection Unit
(DCPU), mental health professionals, and other stakeholders for effective case
management.
* Participate in team meetings and review discussions to support rehabilitation planning.
5. Documentation and Reporting
* Maintain structured counselling dashboard, confidential counselling reports and relevant
documents, case files, referral records, and session notes in accordance with organisational
protocols.
* Prepare and submit timely weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, case updates, case
studies, and other programme documentation.
* Ensure accurate documentation of counselling interventions, referrals, follow-ups, and
outcomes while maintaining confidentiality.
* Participating in the official meetings
6. Programme Development and Team Coordination
* Contribute to the development of mental health IEC and relevant documents within the
programme.
* Coordinate and align counselling interventions with the project team to ensure holistic and
child-centred service delivery.
* Any other work assigned by the supervisor.
Note: The role involves sustained interaction with children in conflict with law, their families, juvenile justice system stakeholders which may involve exposure to emotional distress, complex and emotionally challenging situations.
Although CSJ is committed to staff care and self-care policy and encourage staff to use the appropriate mechanism to take care of themselves while maintaining professional boundaries.

Required Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
Master's degree in psychology, Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related
field.
* Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in counselling, psychosocial support, child
protection, institutional care, or working with children and adolescents will be preferred.
* Experience of working with children in difficult or vulnerable situations will be an
advantage.
* Understanding of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and
POCSO Act will be an advantage.
* Understanding of the Microsoft Office and similar software for data base management
* Excellent comprehension of written and spoken English and Hindi.
* Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability of firmly advocating for the best interest, dignity and safety of the child
* Willingness to learn, reflect, and continuously develop professional knowledge and skills.
* Ability to manage multiple cases and responsibilities, maintain timelines, and deliver quality work on time.
* Willingness to travel for field visits (as per requirement), institutional visits, court/JJB related work, Police stations, stakeholder meetings, and follow-up with children and families as required.
* Understanding restorative practices will be an advantage.
