Brief about Project: LEPRA Society will start implementation of Rural Eye Health Programme in three blocks of Rayagada district, Odisha, with the overall goal of “To reduce avoidable blindness and ensure continuity of care for vulnerable populations affected by vision impairment and blindness.” The project area includes three blocks namely, Bisam Cuttack, Muniguda and Kolnara of Rayagada district, Odisha.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
The Optometrist will conduct comprehensive vision screenings, refraction tests, and primary eye care evaluations across project blocks (Bisam Cuttack, Muniguda, Kolnara) in Rayagada district, Odisha. The position will prescribe corrective spectacles, detect early eye conditions (cataract, glaucoma, refractive errors), and refer complex cases to secondary/tertiary facilities, ensuring quality eye care for vulnerable populations under the Rural Eye Health Programme.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct eye examinations, refraction and spectacle services at Vision Centres and outreach sites.
• Identify and refer cataract, glaucoma, DR, childhood and other eye conditions.
• Counsel patients and support referral, treatment, surgery and follow-up.
• Conduct school and community eye screening.
• Use teleophthalmology, digital and AI-assisted tools where applicable.
• Maintain clinical records, referrals and MIS data.
• Coordinate with ophthalmologists, Vision Centres and field teams.
• Support quality improvement, training and continuity of care.
Technical /Area of Expertise: Clinical expertise in refraction, retinoscopy, optical dispensing, and operating ophthalmic equipment (Auto-Refractometer, Lensmeter, Slit Lamp). Knowledge of community vision screening protocols, patient counseling, and clinical record-keeping in rural/tribal settings.
Education qualification required: Recognized qualification in Optometry with 2 years minimum experience.
Skills required:
Primary: Clinical Refraction & Retinoscopy, Vision Screening & Disease Detection, Optical Dispensing, Ophthalmic Equipment Operation, Patient Counseling & Referrals.
Secondary: Community Vision Camp Execution, Clinical Record Keeping, Local Language Proficiency (Odia), Hygiene & Infection Control.
