Background
JSI R&T India Foundation (JSI Foundation) is a not-for-profit organization, registered in 2014 under Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013. The mission of the JSI Foundation is to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable communities through innovative, evidence informed and replicable strategies in partnership with government, private sector and civil society. JSI Foundation works closely with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Women and Child Development, as well as state counterparts, leading CSR companies, and Global Fund to implement context specific and comprehensive public health programs in India.
Project Overview
Project Tushti, supported by Nayara Energy, is a flagship initiative aimed at combating malnutrition and improving health outcomes in high-burden areas of Devbhoomi Dwarka, Gujarat. Since its inception in 2019, the project has implemented community-driven interventions that have significantly reduced malnutrition rates in targeted regions.
Building on its success in Devbhumi Dwarka, Project TUSHTI is being expanded to Porbandar, Gir Somnath and Amreli districts, in addition to Devbhumi Dwarka to strengthen maternal and child nutrition outcomes, reduce malnutrition, and build Suposhit Panchayats through convergence, behaviour change communication and service strengthening.
Job Summary
The District Coordinator will provide overall leadership, coordination and management of Project TUSHTI at the district level. The role involves strategic planning, government liaison, team supervision, quality assurance of implementation and accountability for achieving nutrition outcomes. The District CoOrdinator will lead district teams, ensure convergence with ICDS and Health Departments and represent the project in district-level forums.
Key Responsibilities
District-Level Planning & Implementation
- Lead planning and execution of Tushti interventions across selected blocks and villages as per the approved proposal and work plan.
- Ensure phased implementation in high-concentration blocks and priority villages.
- Oversee implementation of key interventions including growth monitoring, CMAM support, THR promotion, Poshan Sabhas, Nutritional Care Centres, and Poshan Corners.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and supervise Block Coordinators, M&E Officers, and Field Officers.
- 8-10 field visits in a month for supportive supervision of block and field team.
- Ensure effective deployment of teams, regular field monitoring and performance reviews.
- Identify capacity-building needs and facilitate trainings for project staff and frontline workers.
Government Convergence & Stakeholder Coordination
- Act as the primary liaison with district ICDS, Health Department, PRI representatives and district administration.
- Ensure alignment with Poshan 2.0, ICDS protocols, Poshan Sangam, VHSND & Saksham guidelines and district action plans.
- Represent Project TUSHTI in district review meetings, convergence forums and government-led platforms.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Ensure strong monitoring systems and data-driven decision-making in coordination with the M&E Officer.
- Review district-level data on malnutrition, service coverage, and behavioural indicators.
- Ensure timely submission of monthly, quarterly and annual reports to donors and government stakeholders.
Community Engagement & Suposhit Panchayats
- Guide development of Suposhit Panchayats / Wards through community mobilization and local governance strengthening.
- Support strengthening of VHSNCs, SHGs and community institutions for sustainable nutrition outcomes.
Documentation, Learning & Quality Assurance
- Ensure documentation of best practices, success stories and innovations from the district.
- Support learning, adaptive management and dissemination of project outcomes at district and state levels.
Key Deliverables / Outputs
- Effective implementation of Project TUSHTI across assigned districts and blocks.
- Measurable reduction in malnutrition indicators in high-concentration areas.
- Strengthened ICDS and Health service delivery platforms (AWCs, VHSNDs, Four Tuesdays).
- Functional community institutions and progress toward Suposhit Panchayats.
- High-quality reporting, documentation and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications and Skills
JSI Foundation seeks a results-oriented individual with the ability to produce high quality deliverables, manage multiple concurrent tasks, meet tight deadlines and pay close attention to detail. The successful candidate is required to have:
- Postgraduate degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work, Rural Development, or related fields.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in health/nutrition or development programs, with district-level leadership experience.
- Strong experience working with government systems (ICDS, Health Department, NHM).
- Excellent leadership, coordination and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong communications skills and skills in developing high quality presentations
- Proficiency in documentation, reporting, MS Office and data management.
- Fluency in English, Gujarati and Hindi.
- Willingness to travel extensively within the district.
