TENDERNOTICE
Background
Anganwadi Centres (AWCs), functioning under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), play a pivotal role in early childhood development, health, and nutrition in India. They serve as a critical platform for delivering essential services such as supplementary nutrition, basic healthcare, and pre-school education to children under six years of age, along with support to pregnant and lactating women.
Despite their importance, many AWCs across the country continue to face significant gaps in access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure. This directly affects the quality and effectiveness of services provided and undermines child health and development outcomes.
The need to strengthen WASH in AWCs is closely aligned with the global agenda of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Importance of WASH in AWCs
Anganwadi Centres are the first point of contact for early childhood care and development under ICDS. Ensuring proper WASH infrastructure in AWCs is critical because:
- Children (0–6 years) are highly vulnerable to infections caused by poor sanitation and hygiene.
- Pregnant and lactating women require safe and hygienic environments for better health outcomes.
- Early inculcation of hygiene behaviors (such as handwashing and toilet use) leads to lifelong positive practices.
- Strengthening WASH in AWCs not only improves immediate health outcomes but also contributes to long- term behavioral change at the household and community levels.
Objectives
- To ensure the availability of baby-friendly toilets, safe drinking water, and functional handwashing stations for children and staff in AWCs.
- To promote health and hygiene education among children, Anganwadi workers, and the local community.
- To ensure long-term sustainability of WASH facilities through active community participation in operation, maintenance, and ownership.
- Nature of Work: Construction of WASH Infra at AWCs
- Place of Work: Patora, Kahetamafi , Baliyapurwa–Kahetamafi &Taraw at Karwi Block, Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh
