Job Summary:
The Project Manager will be accountable for overall implementation of the project that aims to transform Chakrayapeta Block in YSR Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh, from a chronically water-stressed region into a water-secured climate resilient block. The Project Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing field implementation of watershed and water resource management interventions, including pond/tank rejuvenation, groundwater recharge, rainwater harvesting, and community-based water governance. The role demands strong technical understanding along with field management and stakeholder coordination skills to ensure timely, high-quality, and sustainable project outcomes.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning & Coordination:
• Prepare detailed implementation plans for all project interventions, including:
o Desilting and strengthening of ponds/tanks with inlet, outlet, and silt trap systems
o Cleaning and restoration of feeder channels
o Construction of check dams, spillways, weirs, and percolation ponds
o Repair and construction of sluices
o Installation of rainwater harvesting systems in public institutions
o Construction of soak pits/recharge pits and recharge through defunct borewells/open wells
• Ensure proper sequencing and convergence of activities within the watershed approach.
2. Field Implementation & Supervision:
• Oversee on-ground execution of all civil and water management works.
• Ensure adherence to approved technical designs, quality standards, and timelines.
• Conduct regular field visits to monitor progress and resolve implementation challenges.
3. Technical Support & Quality Assurance:
• Provide hands-on technical guidance to field teams on:
o Site selection and layout of recharge and storage structures
o Construction methodologies and material quality
4. Hydrogeological & Watershed Approach:
• Apply water resource management & watershed principles for optimal water conservation and recharge.
• Support basic assessments related to:
o Catchment area and runoff patterns
o Soil type and infiltration capacity
• Ensure integration of surface water and groundwater recharge interventions.
5. Community Mobilization & Capacity Building:
• Facilitate formation and strengthening of Village Water Committees/User Groups.
• Conduct and support trainings on:
o Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of water structures
o Water conservation and safe water practices
• Promote community participation and ownership of assets.
6. Stakeholder Coordination:
• Liaise with:
o Local government officials (BDO, Panchayat representatives)
o Community institutions, schools, and user groups
• Ensure smooth coordination for approvals, implementation, and sustainability.
7. Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation:
• Track activity-wise progress and ensure timely reporting.
• Work closely with MIS & Documentation Officer to:
o Maintain accurate field data
o Document outputs (structures, capacity created, etc.)
• Prepare periodic progress reports and highlight risks or delays.
8. Sustainability & Post-Implementation Support:
• Ensure systems are in place for long-term maintenance of assets.
• Promote community-led monitoring of water resources and infrastructure.
• Support development of village-level water management plans.
Educational Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in:
o Civil Engineering / Agricultural Engineering / Water Resource Engineering
o Environmental Science / Hydrology / Watershed Management / Rural Development
• Master’s degree in relevant field (preferred)
Professional Experience:
• Minimum 3–6 years of experience in:
o Watershed management / WASH / water resource projects
o Implementation of groundwater recharge and water conservation structures
• Proven experience in field-based project execution and stakeholder coordination
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong understanding of:
o Integrated Water Resource Management and Watershed principles and groundwater recharge techniques
o Rainwater harvesting systems and rural water infrastructure
• Good project management and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work closely with communities and local institutions
• Strong reporting and communication skills
• Willingness for extensive field travel
