Background:
The fundamental mission of UN ORGANISATION is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organisation does — in programs, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to children’s rights into action. For UN ORGANISATION, equity means that any child has an equal chance in life — in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions — her or his rights are realized. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, education and protection of a society’s most disadvantaged citizens — addressing inequity — will not only give all children the opportunity to fulfil their potential but also lead to sustained growth and stability in countries. This is why the focus on equity is so vital. It accelerates progress towards realising the human rights of all children, which is UN universal mandate, as outlined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while also supporting the equitable development of nations.
In line with proposed strategies of UN ORGANISATION country programme action plan, UN ORGANISATION Odisha Office proposes to promote decentralization and improved governance through strengthening participation of children and their communities in the realization of rights and access to services that impact the well-being of children. Building on experiences with programmatic interventions using PRI mechanisms at different levels, UN ORGANISATION ODISHA will provide technical support to build the capacity of panchayat institutions to strengthen their involvement in development programmes, accelerate demand for quality services, and ensure the voices of children in the decentralised planning process.
