Position Summary
The Climate Resilience & Livelihoods Officer will provide technical support for integrating climate resilience and climate-smart livelihood approaches across ADRA India's programmes, with primary responsibility for the Project in Assam.
The position will support the identification and management of climate risks affecting livestock and rural livelihoods and guide the design, implementation and monitoring of appropriate adaptation and resilience measures. At the Country Office level, the Officer will support climate risk assessments, programme design, proposal development and mainstreaming of climate resilience across relevant programmes.
The Officer will work closely with project teams, communities, government departments, technical institutions and other stakeholders to strengthen programme quality, staff capacity and evidence-based climate resilience programming.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support for integrating climate resilience and climate-smart livelihood approaches within the PRECISE Project and other relevant ADRA India programmes.
- Assess climate risks and vulnerabilities affecting livestock, agriculture and rural livelihoods and recommend practical adaptation measures.
- Support climate-resilient livestock interventions, including heat stress management, climate-smart fodder, water management, resilient livestock shelters and preparedness for climate-related shocks.
- Conduct and support climate risk, vulnerability and livelihood assessments in programme locations.
- Support the integration of climate information, seasonal risks, early warning and preparedness measures into project planning and implementation.
- Design and provide technical guidance on climate-smart agriculture, livestock and sustainable livelihood interventions.
- Support programme teams in climate risk screening and mainstreaming climate resilience into existing and proposed projects.
- Provide technical inputs to concept notes, proposals, assessments, programme strategies and donor submissions related to climate resilience and livelihoods.
- Support the development of climate resilience indicators and monitoring approaches and assess the effectiveness of adaptation interventions.
- Conduct regular field monitoring and provide technical recommendations to project and field teams.
- Develop technical guidelines, tools, training materials and knowledge products on climate resilience and climate-smart livelihoods.
- Build the capacity of ADRA India staff, field teams and community structures on climate risks, adaptation and resilient livelihood practices.
- Document good practices, lessons learned, case studies and evidence from climate resilience intervention
- Establish and strengthen linkages with relevant government departments, research institutions, technical agencies and development partners.
- Identify opportunities for technical collaboration, convergence and resource mobilisation related to climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods.
- Represent ADRA India in relevant technical meetings, workshops and climate resilience forums, as assigned.
- Prepare regular technical updates and contribute to project and donor reports.
- Undertake frequent field travel and any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Master's degree in Climate Change, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, Agriculture, Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in climate resilience, climate change adaptation, climate-smart agriculture/livestock or resilient livelihood programming.
- Experience in climate risk and vulnerability assessments and designing practical adaptation interventions
- Good understanding of climate risks affecting agriculture, livestock and rural livelihoods.
- Knowledge of climate-smart agriculture, climate-resilient livestock practices, disaster risk reduction and preparedness approaches.
- Experience in programme design, proposal development, technical documentation and monitoring.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, coordination and capacity-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience working in Assam or Northeast India and knowledge of Assamese or relevant local languages will be an advantage.
- Willingness to undertake frequent field travel.
