All these organisations are able to address the key blinding conditions that affect the world, especially cataract, glaucoma, child eye health, corneal conditions, diabetic retinopathy and other retinal disorders, etc.
Job Profile overview
The Optometrist will be responsible for identifying patients, conducting retinal imaging and basic eye screening of patients with diabetes, identifying patients requiring further evaluation for Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), and facilitating their referral to the base hospital for appropriate diagnosis and treatment. The role will also involve identifying and referring patients with other eye conditions requiring further assessment.
The Optometrist will counsel patients on the importance of regular eye examinations, early detection and timely treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy and other eye conditions, and support patients in understanding and completing the recommended referral pathway. The role requires a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred eye-care services, maintaining accurate patient records, and ensuring appropriate follow-up and coordination with the base hospital and programme team.

Expectations from the Role
- Conduct vision screening and comprehensive eye examinations for patients with history of diabetes using standard clinical protocols.
- Perform visual acuity testing, refraction, retinoscopy, and near vision assessment.
- Identify refractive errors, amblyopia, squint, cataract, and other common eye conditions requiring intervention.
- Refer beneficiaries requiring advanced diagnosis or surgical intervention to partner hospitals; maintain complete and accurate referral records.
- Provide counselling to beneficiaries attending the camps adults regarding eye health, referral follow up, continued treatment, spectacle use, compliance, and follow-up care.
- Maintain accurate clinical records, camp registers, and digital data entry systems throughout all programme activities.
- Support project teams during camp setup, beneficiary flow management, and post-camp follow-up activities.
- Monitor compliance of referred cases and support re-screening activities where required.
- Ensure proper handling, calibration, and maintenance of ophthalmic equipment and screening tools.
- Prepare and submit timely camp summaries, clinical reports, and referral tracking documentation.
- Maintain professional conduct throughout all programme activities.
- Support digital data entry and reporting systems to ensure real-time data accuracy.
Eligibility Requirements
- Bachelor of Optometry from a recognised University
- 2-3 years of experience in clinical optometry, outreach screening, or public health eye care programmes.
- Fluency in Hindi and preferably also in Marathi; knowledge of English
- Willing to travel across Mumbai and MMR region for, community outreach camps, follow-up visits, and field-based project activities.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and email communication; data documentation, validation, and reporting, are core expectations of this role
