The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine through Johns Hopkins India Private Limited (JHIPL) is recruiting a Research Assistant to strengthen its team as part of the TransformHIV Project.

Context
The TransformHIV Project, an international collaborative project funded by the Wellcome Trust (WT), aims to develop a new evidence-based statistical and mathematical modeling framework to improve knowledge on the impact of structural factors and interventions on HIV risk among vulnerable populations (https://wellcome.org/research-funding/funding-portfolio/funded-grants/transforming-response-hiv-epidemics-amongst-key). The project is a close collaboration between institutions from the UK, Canada, Côte d’Ivoire, Ukraine and India. It also seeks to strengthen mathematical modeling capacities in partner countries, including India. In India, the project is led by Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, represented by Johns Hopkins India Private Limited (JHIPL), under which the research assistant position is announced, with the opportunity to pursue a PhD through the University of Bristol if the candidate shows sufficient progress in the first year.
Required Profile:
• First degree with minimum of 2:1 in relevant subject from recognized university
• Master’s degree (MSc) in mathematical modelling, infectious disease epidemiology, population biology, mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, or another highly quantitative discipline directly related to epidemiology and public health.
• Experience in biomedical/epidemiological statistical analyses
• Strong command of statistical software (e.g. R/ stata).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in the field of HIV or other infectious diseases would be an asset.
• Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English as required by JHU and University of Bristol
• Experience of writing scientific journal articles is an asset
• The candidate must be willing to be based in Delhi, India.
• The candidate must be willing to complete a PhD remotely at University of Bristol including one to two years of study in UK.
Tasks:
The recruited Research Assistant & PhD candidate will be expected to:
• Perform statistical analyses of cross-sectional and longitudinal individual-level datasets.
• Conduct systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses.
• Complete training on mathematical modelling
• Undertake mathematical modelling to assess the impact of structural barriers and factors on HIV at the population level among vulnerable populations.
• Lead the writing of scientific journal articles in English.
