Reports To: Project Manager
 
Nature of Employment: This is a project-specific position offered as a full-time contract with benefits. Renewal is possible, depending on project extension and availability of funds.
 
1.ORGANISATION BACKGROUND:
Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation (www.brlf.in) is an autonomous body established in 2013 under the Ministry of Rural Development through a Union Cabinet decision by the Government of India. With a vision to transform the lives and livelihoods of the most vulnerable populations across India, BRLF plays a crucial role in fostering and facilitating civil society action in partnership with the government and people’s institutions. Its mandate encompasses a range of objectives, including bridging the gap between program outlays and outcomes, improving implementation of government flagship programs, providing grant support to civil society organisations (CSOs), and promoting partnerships for inclusive, sustainable development. BRLF has a pan-India mandate and focuses on tribal geographies, particularly those in the Central Indian tribal belt and Northeast India. The focus has been on the states with the most concentration of tribal population which are Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Mizoram.

About the project:
The Project SAARTHI is to foster the Integrated Natural Resource Management and  Livelihood development for socio-economic development of tribal populations by transitioning them from subsistence farming to sustainable, commercial agro-ecological production in 16 villages at Baxawah Block, Chhatarpur District, MP.
 
2. Role Description:
The Livelihoods Expert will lead the design, coordination, and integration of livelihood interventions with a strong emphasis on agriculture-based solutions. The role aims to strengthen the resilience, food security, and economic well-being of target communities by promoting sustainable, climate-smart, and market-oriented agricultural practices alongside other livelihood strategies. The Livelihood Expert will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and monitoring sustainable livelihood programs. The individual will work closely with local communities, PRIs, and government bodies to promote livelihood enhancement initiatives and ensure their alignment with project strategic objectives.
 
3.Key Duties and Responsibilities:
 
3.1.           Program Design & Integration:
  • Lead the integration of agriculture-focused activities into broader livelihoods programming.
  • Ensure alignment with market opportunities, community needs, climate change adaptation, and gender and youth inclusion strategies.
3.2.           Technical Support & Capacity Building:
  • Provide technical guidance on agriculture, agri-business, and rural livelihoods.
  • Facilitate training, workshops, and mentorship for project teams, local partners, and beneficiaries.
3.3.           Market Systems Development:
  • Identify value chains and promote linkages between smallholder farmers and markets.
  • Support entrepreneurship initiatives, input supply systems, and business development services.
3.4.           Innovation and Sustainability:
  • Promote climate-smart agriculture, regenerative practices, and digital tools where feasible.
  • Strengthen local institutions, cooperatives, and farmer organizations for long-term sustainability.
3.5.           Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning (MEL):
  • Collaborate with the MEL team to design indicators, monitor progress, and document learnings.
  • Contribute to adaptive management through regular feedback loops and innovation.
3.6.           Coordination and Representation:
  • Represent the livelihoods program in technical meetings, clusters, government forums, and with donors.
  • Collaborate closely with sectors like WASH (Water /sanitation and Hygiene) , Education, Nutrition, and Protection to maximize impact.
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
 
Qualification and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, or related fields.
  • At least 5–7 years of experience working on agriculture and livelihoods programs in humanitarian, recovery, or development contexts.
  • Proven expertise in areas like sustainable agriculture, value chain development, climate-smart practices, and/or agribusiness.
  • Experience working with reputed NGOs, governments, or private sector in livelihood interventions.
  • Familiarity with participatory approaches, gender-responsive programming, and market systems development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural and remote environments.
  • Own 2-wheeler is required and driving.
  • Good command of speaking, reading, and writing in Hindi and English is preferred with local language.
5. COMPENSATION OFFERED: 
The remuneration package is budgeted for a range of INR 45000/- to 50,000 /-per month. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and salary history.
 
6.LOCATION: Baxawah Block, Chhatarpur District, MP
 
7.Age Limit: Max. Up to 35 years
