Job description - Technical Expert - Horticulture
About PHD Rural Development Foundation: PHDRDF is a Trust established in 1981 under the aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, New Delhi with an objective to work as a catalyst to enable the resource poor to achieve self-reliance and improve quality of life through integrated socio- economic development. We have been actively working towards improving access to basic services like Health and Education, Livelihood Enhancement, Agriculture Improvement, Skill Development, Water Resource Development, Integrated Village Development Programmes and other need based community development activities.
PHDRDF works with support from various Corporates, PSUs and International Bodies as part of their CSR activities. PHDRDF’s programmes are largely implemented in rural and underdeveloped areas in the country.
Job Role: The Technical Expert– Horticulture will lead the design and delivery of advanced training programs for farmers and field staff. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Horticulture, sustainable agriculture, natural farming, climate resilient agriculture, and integrated pest management. Key responsibilities include developing training materials, organizing capacitybuilding workshops, and implementing climate resilience agriculture projects.
Location: PHDRDF’s Field Office, Aandhi blocks, Jaipur District., Rajasthan
Responsibility:
• Implement Climate Resilience Horticulture and agriculture Diversification Project closely related to Fruit Plantation, vegetables cultivation and Soil Management.
• Implement Climate Resilience Agriculture Strengthening project through crop-specific packages of practices (POP) and monthly schedules for farmers to follow. Explore and develop herbal pest control measures and share innovative solutions with farmers. Regularly visit fields to monitor crop growth, assess pest risks, and provide immediate solutions for identified challenges.
• Design and deliver advanced training programs for field staff and lead farmers (Master Trainers) on organic, natural farming, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.
• Develop training material, including videos, presentations, and manuals, in simple local language for better comprehension by farmers and field staff. Identify and implement innovative ways to educate farmers, including short videos and other multimedia resources.
• Organize capacity-building workshops by collaborating with agricultural research stations, KVKs, and other relevant organizations.
• Identify and develop techniques using locally available materials to improve soil fertility, pest management and improving crop quality and yield.
• Build relationships with active or lead farmers, ensuring timely implementation of farming activities and showcasing their farms for demonstrations.
• Develop local micro-input centres through FIGs, Monitor farmer participation in training programs and assess their impact on farm productivity and sustainability.
• Develop and implement POPs to improve quality and productivity of the crops, Identify interventions such as suitable seeds; crop management, harvest and post-harvest POP for improving quality and productivity, monitor farmer participation in training programs and assess their impact on farm productivity and sustainability.
Skill Required - Project Management and Documentation Skills :
• Guide field staff in planning and conducting field-level trainings.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all training sessions, including participant feedback, photos, videos, and other evidence for audits.
• Forecasting and Problem-Solving, Anticipate potential pest or environmental threats to crops and prepare preventive and control measures.
• Ensure Community awareness with colleagues.
Desired Qualification :
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience with NGOs with 3-year minimum experience in implementation of Horticulture and Sustainable Agriculture Projects including training and implementing organic and IPM practices, Micro irrigation etc. preferably in Rajasthan or other Rain-fed Areas of the country. Candidate from Rajasthan will be given preference.
Essential Qualifications and Skills :
• Master’s degree in Horticulture (preferred) and allied agriculture domain or a related field.
• Strong communication skills (Hindi), with the ability to engage with Rajasthan’s rural communities.
• Proficiency in developing and delivering training programs in local languages.
• Organizational skills for managing records, compliance, and reporting.
Remuneration/Package/ Benefits:
