Position: Old Age Home Manager
Reporting to: State Programme Manager
Location: Cuddalore, TamilNadu

Programmes include Senior Citizen Homes, Active Ageing Centres, Elder Helplines, Geriatric Caregiving, Functional Mobility & Assistive Devices, and community?based initiatives implemented with state teams and partners.
Role Overview
The Old Age Home Manager ensures high?quality, dignified, safe and person?centered care for residents while managing all operational, clinical, administrative and safeguarding functions. The role also positions the home as a model facility that documents good practices and builds capacities of partner old age homes across diverse geographies—aligning with national eldercare standards, longevity trends, gendered vulnerabilities and HelpAge India’s vision.
The role integrates MSJE Minimum Standards for Senior Citizen Homes, WHO ICOPE intrinsic capacity–based care planning, and NPHCE public?health linkages for geriatric services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Home Operations & Resident Care
- Manage admissions, resident orientation, housekeeping, kitchen & nutrition, laundry, maintenance and inventory as per SOPs.
- Ensure age?friendly infrastructure and compliance with MSJE Minimum Standards (space norms, safety, accessibility).
- Lead WHO ICOPE?aligned assessments, care plans and monitoring across intrinsic capacity domains.
- Coordinate periodic medical check?ups, referrals, emergency tie?ups and government linkages under NPHCE.
2. Safeguarding, Rights & Resident Protection
- Maintain zero?tolerance safeguarding systems aligned with best?practice guidelines (abuse prevention, incident reporting, redressal).
- Uphold provisions of the Maintenance & Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, ensuring rights, welfare and safety.
3. IPC, Hygiene & Safety
- Implement NCDC IPC guidelines including hand hygiene, PPE, isolation protocols and outbreak readiness.
- Apply hygiene/WASH standards for cleanliness and biomedical waste handling.
- Conduct fire?safety checks and evacuation drills.
4. HR Management & Training
- Maintain optimal staffing and shift rosters referencing nursing norms.
- Deliver recurring training on eldercare basics, dementia care, falls/nutrition, documentation, IPC and safeguarding.
- Conduct staff supervision, competency reviews and mentoring.
5. Administration, Documentation & Quality
- Maintain complete resident records, maintenance logs and statutory documentation.
- Run a monthly Quality & Safety Dashboard (falls, wounds, HAIs, medication errors, complaints, satisfaction) and drive improvements using PDSA cycles.
6. Finance, Compliance & Reporting
- Manage budgets, procurement and utilization effectively.
- Ensure compliance with 12AB, 80G, CSR?1 and FCRA (if applicable) for audits and donor reporting.
7. Family, Community & System Linkages
- Lead family engagement, counselling and resident councils.
- Strengthen community and public?health linkages including PHCs/CHCs and NPHCE services.
- Facilitate volunteers and active?ageing activities.
8. Model Home & Capacity?Building Hub
- Develop practical, multilingual HelpAge?aligned SOPs adaptable to diverse geographies.
- Mentor partner homes through learning sessions, virtual clinics and supportive audits on standards, IPC, hygiene and safeguarding.
- Use evidence such as LASI findings to contextualise care for longevity, widowhood, multimorbidity and gendered vulnerabilities.
- Produce brief toolkits, micro?videos and case studies for sector strengthening.
9. Key Attributes

- Knowledge of MSJE standards, ICOPE, NPHCE, safeguarding and IPC protocols.
- Ability to mentor teams and partner homes; strong communication skills.

10. Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Graduate in Social Work, Nursing, Geriatric Care, Public Health, Health/Hospital Administration or related field; postgraduate preferred.
- 5 - 8 years’ experience in eldercare/healthcare/social?care operations including at least 3 years managing teams.
- Familiarity with MSJE Minimum Standards, MWPSC Act, NPHCE, ICOPE care planning.
- Experience with budgeting, compliance and audits (12AB, 80G, CSR?1, FCRA).
- Strong safeguarding and IPC grounding
Desirable
- Training in geriatrics/ICOPE, dementia, palliative care, quality improvement or adult learning.
- Experience strengthening partner organisations or residential care homes.
