Job Description of the Position
The Community Awareness Buddy (CAB) will play an integral role in raising awareness of diabetes and hypertension as part of NC-DISHAA, Bengaluru intervention in the slums of Bengaluru. This is a full- time field-based role, where CABs will be assigned specific geographic to carry out the communication activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop detailed micro-plans for ground-level operations, in consultation with program staff and the Communications Associate to ensure messaging is culturally sensitive and impactful.
- Identify and build rapport with key local ward leaders, religious leaders, and slum influencers, to secure community buy-in and facilitate smoother project entry and execution of activities and campaigns.
- Execute awareness initiatives focused on diabetes and hypertension within urban slum communities, ensuring all efforts align with broader project goals.
- Execute high-visibility health campaigns and important events (e.g., World Diabetes, Hypertension, and Health Days) by organizing demographic-specific rallies and workshops that drive maximum community engagement.
- Provide data-backed report by meticulously documenting field activities and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), such as total reach and community engagement levels.
- Provide active support to ground teams by not only participating in but also taking the lead in community-focused initiatives such as street plays, awareness campaigns, and other outreach activities.
- Contribute to developing communication materials.
- Ensure adherence to organisational policies on consent, privacy, ethical image use, and data protection.
- Any other relevant tasks.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in any field, preferably in MSW or social work and any other relevant field.
- Freshers can also apply, provided they have an interest in working in the slums.
Desired profile of the candidate
- Skilled in using basic computer programs- word, excel, powerpoint etc. and digital tools for managing data, communication, and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate the complex, shifting dynamics of urban slums and tailor approaches to meet the needs of diverse and versatile populations.
- Proven capacity to work independently with high accountability while maintaining a collaborative, supportive presence within a multidisciplinary team.
- Prior experience in the NGO/nonprofit sector, complemented by a strong professional interest in the development field.
- A deep understanding of community-based work, ensuring all interactions are grounded in empathy and respect for the target demographic.
- Prior experience in street plays or any community engagement activities will be preferred.
- Proficiency in Kannada (speaking, reading, and writing) is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Urdu, or Telugu will be considered an added advantage.
