About the role
The Senior Manager – Programs will play a critical role in driving the design, execution, and scale-up of Americares India’s public health and health systems strengthening initiatives. This position is responsible for overseeing multiple programs, ensuring high-quality implementation, and aligning program outcomes with organizational goals and community needs. Working closely with internal teams, government stakeholders, partners, and donors, the role requires strong program management expertise, strategic thinking, and hands-on leadership. The Senior Manager will also contribute technical inputs, support evidence-based decision-making, and strengthen systems to ensure sustainable and impactful health outcomes across program geographies.
 
What will you do in this role (Roles and Responsibilities)
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
Execution of current programs:
  • After orientation, work on the delivery of Health System Strengthening program with speed and accuracy.
  • Provide support to big teams of multiple programs on day-to-day operations across various components.
  • Understand the requirement of high level of multi-tasking required and accordingly develop, execute program strategies to meet milestones. 
  • Develop program work plans (project, annual) and MLE plans along with the MLE team for successful project execution
Stakeholder Management:
  • Liaise with government organizations and Primary/secondary/ tertiary health facilities for– seeking permissions, sharing updates, conducting follow-ups.
  • Explore and execute networking opportunities with (1) Government (2) other NGOs.
  • Closely work with identified stakeholders to ensure mutually agreed vision is delivered on ground.
  • Implementation of community event/s in co-ordination with field staff, gross root level NGOs.
Technical inputs:
  • Map public health sector opportunities for organization- keep him/herself informed on the policies of GOI and work with Program Director to develop robust proposals.
  • Develop SOPs for existing and new programs.
  • Develop technical briefs on various subjects for wider circulation.
  • Work with Program Director for peer review publications – atleast 3 publications to be submitted to a reputed journal in year 1.
  • Independently conduct basic analysis and guide teams accordingly.
  • Collate, report and document monthly progress of the program to be shared in monthlyreview meetings.
Office co-ordination:
  • Co-ordination with Procurement & Logistic team and/vendors for timely procurement/delivery of consumables, collaterals etc.
  • Co-ordination with warehouse team for dispatching medicines/materials and consumables for distribution in schools/community.
  • Rise to the occasion of working in events of disaster and emergency response.
  • Overseeing the repair & renovation work of consultants, Procurement & Logistic vendors as well as in house teams.
Other Implementation Responsibilities:
  • Identification and mapping of health providers for referrals.
  • Keeping all supporting documents such as case studies, photo consents, school letters etc ready for timely usage.
  • Any other responsibilities assigned.
We are looking for some one who has:
 
Required Qualifications
  • MPH or master’s degree in social work with a strong public health experience/ background.
  • At least 8-10 years of work experience in development sector program and 2-3 years of supervisory experience along with experience of working with public health departments
Desired Experience
  • Supervisory experience of managing teams of range of professionals – from grass root health workers to highly qualified professionals.
  • Working experience of handling 2-3 projects simultaneously.
  • Working experience of working with public health department for health system strengthening.

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience of working with Govt authorities
  • Open to travel
  • Work experience in urban areas
  • Publications in reputed journals – first or second author
  • Understanding various research methodologies and statistics
Skills and Competencies
  • Confident to manage team with minimum support from Program Director for day-to-day operations.
  • Ability to work in support of and collaboratively with a range of people at all levels.
  • Computer and Internet competency is required, specifically MS- Excel and MS- PPTXs, SPSS (desired)
  • Works effectively within a variety of situations, individuals and groups.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally in written and oral forms
  • Escalates the operations related challenges in timely manner
  • Helps teams to remove roadblocks
  • Fluency in spoken and written English, Marathi and Hindi are required.
