Role: Project Intern
Type: Part-time | Remote | Flexible
Project Duration: 7 months
Reporting To: Consultant / Senior Project Associate & Executive Director, Imaara Survivor Support Foundation
Compensation: Paid (To be discussed)

About Imaara:

Imaara Survivor Support Foundation, founded in 2023, is dedicated to preventing gender-based violence (GBV) and providing critical support to survivors through increasing access to healing and restorative resources rooted in empathy and education. Imaara works to empower bystanders to take action against violence in their communities through trauma-informed awareness of laws, policies, and consent frameworks.

Imaara's flagship initiative is the Imaara Resource App — a geo-location mobile platform that connects survivors across India to a rigorously vetted network of legal, medical, mental health, shelter, and other support services. Every provider on the platform is manually audited for professional credibility and a demonstrated trauma-informed approach, ensuring survivors can find safe, empathetic help in minutes rather than days.

To date, Imaara has provided one-on-one support to over 50 survivors and bystanders, and is now scaling this impact through technology.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a curious, motivated, and compassionate intern to support Imaara's ground-level work in Chennai. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who is passionate about the development sector and wants to contribute meaningfully to the fight against gender-based violence. You will work alongside the Consultant / Senior Project Associate and gain hands-on experience in stakeholder mapping, relationship building, documentation, and the day-to-day workings of a growing social impact organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist in researching and identifying stakeholders in Chennai working in the GBV and survivor support space — NGOs, legal aid clinics, mental health providers, hospitals, shelters, and community groups
2. Support outreach efforts to potential collaborators and resource providers
3. Help maintain and update documentation of stakeholder information, meeting notes, and partnership progress
4. Assist with coordination tasks including scheduling, follow-ups, and internal communications
5. Support the verification and onboarding of service providers for the Imaara Resource App
6. Contribute to any research, content, or operational tasks as needed by the team

Who We Are Looking For:

Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Public Policy, or any related Social Science field

Skills & Attributes:

1. A genuine interest in the development sector and in working towards ending gender-based violence
2. Basic communication and interpersonal skills — written and verbal — in both Tamil and English
3. Organised, detail-oriented, and reliable in managing tasks and deadlines
4. Comfortable working independently in a remote setting
5. Openness to working with sensitive topics and a willingness to approach them with care and empathy
6. No prior experience required — a learning attitude and commitment to the cause matter most

What You Will Gain:

1. Hands-on exposure to the development and social impact sector
2. Experience in stakeholder engagement, documentation, and project coordination
3. Mentorship from the Managing Director and Senior Associate
4. A letter of recommendation upon successful completion
5. The opportunity to contribute to work that directly impacts the lives of GBV survivors in Chennai

What We Value:

At Imaara, we believe that how we work is just as important as what we work on. We are looking for someone who leads with empathy, listens deeply, and understands that behind every task is a person's story. You don't need to have all the answers — but you do need to show up with curiosity, care, and a genuine commitment to the cause.

How to Apply:

If this resonates with you, we'd love to hear from you. Please send your CV and a brief note on why this role speaks to you to contact@imaara.in. Please include “Applying to the Intern Role – Imaara’s Resource App Project” in the subject line.

Imaara Survivor Support Foundation is an equal opportunity organisation. Survivors and individuals with lived experience marginalisation are especially encouraged to apply.
