Brief About Foundation for MSME Clusters
Established in June 2005, the Foundation for MSME Clusters (FMC) www.fmc.org.in specializes in the promotion of MSMEs through cluster and value chain led development. FMC was promoted as a Registered Public Charitable Trust with the technical support of a then UNIDO Cluster Development Programme, in June 2005. It is governed by a very eminent Board of Trustees from the Government, Banks, Academia, Donor institutions and NGOs, ably led Mr. Ajay Shankar, IAS (ex-Secretary Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Govt. of India). FMC undertakes all its operations in line with its vision and mission that are given as under:

Mission: Our mission is to “Assist institutions undertake effective and inclusive cluster based local area development in developing and transition economies.
In India, FMC has worked with around 200 MSME clusters, undertaken studies/research in another 150 MSME clusters and worked with 250 Business Membership Organizations (BMOs) thus benefiting more than 100,000 MSMEs across different sectors and sizes. FMC and its experts have also provided training, handholding, and research on cluster development in 16 other countries across the globe.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support ongoing product development initiatives in the cluster, under the guidance of the Senior Design Expert.
• Assist in developing product samples as per the design targets for the cluster.
(e.g., Minimum 15 new samples per month)
• Coordinate regularly with external experts, field staff, and local artisans for feedback and iterative development.
• Conduct field visits to engage with artisans, understand local material and design practices, and incorporate local strengths into product innovation.
• Maintain documentation of designs and samples with clear tracking of materials, costs, and artisan involvement.
• Ensure product photos, descriptions, and specifications are updated for internal records and social media visibility.
• Provide logistical support for workshops, exhibitions, and skill-building sessions conducted in the cluster.
• Support creation of product value chain documentation in collaboration with project teams.
• Submit monthly reports summarizing product development progress, challenges, and solutions.
• Help prepare presentations, mood boards, and reports for internal and external communication needs.
• Support State Coordinator and Experts in other activities as per requirement.
Monthly Deliverables:
• Ensure at least 15 samples are made each month starting July 2026.
• Submit monthly comprehensive report on
1. Design Specs shared by Sr. Designer
2. Sampling progress for each design
3. Costing sheet for each design agreed and signed by the artisan
4. Final samples excel sheet with product description, costing, material used, wages paid etc.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Educational Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Design from a recognized local institute (e.g., Textile Design, Product Design, Fashion Design, etc.)
• Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of professional experience in design and product development, preferably in craft clusters or artisan-based enterprises.
• Familiarity with the product ecosystem and value chain of the assigned cluster.
• Basic proficiency in English, Hindi/Regional Language is essential.
• Ability to use basic design software or hand-drawing skills to communicate design ideas.
• Strong interpersonal and coordination skills to work with diverse stakeholders, including artisans, experts, and field teams.
• Passion for crafts and willingness to travel locally as needed.
