Job Description: Subject Matter Expert – Animal Husbandry

Organization Manbhum Ananda Ashram Nityananda Trust (MANT)

Location Bandwan Block, Purulia (with mandatory stay near the project site)

Salary Attractive and commensurate with experience

About the Role
MANT is hiring a Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Animal Husbandry to provide technical leadership and field-level support for livestock-based livelihood interventions. The role requires strong domain expertise, hands-on field engagement, and the ability to guide community institutions and field teams in improving productivity, health management, and sustainability of livestock systems. In addition to livestock, the SME will also support agri-allied activities, ensuring integrated livelihood development through the convergence of agriculture, livestock, and allied sectors.

This is not a desk-based role—the position demands continuous field presence, practical problem-solving, and close coordination with farmers, frontline staff, and project teams.

Important Clarification on Role Scope
The incumbent will be primarily assigned to a specific project; however, they will also be required to extend technical support to other livestock and agri-allied initiatives across the organization as needed, ensuring cross-learning and standardization of best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance on livestock management (Especially goatery)
  • Support and guide agri-allied activities at the field level for integrated livelihood development
  • Design and support the implementation of animal husbandry and allied interventions
  • Conduct regular on-ground monitoring of project activities and ensure quality implementation
  • Train and build the capacity of farmers, FIGs, and frontline cadres, including Pashu Sakhis and VRPs
  • Promote scientific practices in breeding, feeding, housing, and disease management
  • Support planning and execution of vaccination, deworming, and health camps
  • Ensure strong stakeholder coordination with government departments, veterinary services, and technical agencies
  • Facilitate convergence with government livestock and agri-allied schemes
  • Conduct regular field visits for troubleshooting and advisory support
  • Assist in the preparation of technical modules, IEC materials, and training content
  • Maintain field data, case records, and technical documentation
  • Support the project team in reporting, documentation, and impact assessment
Strict Compliance & Accountability
  • Zero tolerance for delays in reporting or incomplete documentation
  • Mandatory adherence to project timelines, budgets, and reporting standards
  • Immediate escalation of field-level risks or deviations
  • Role is organization-wide; limiting scope to one project is non-compliant
Eligibility Criteria
  • Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc.), OR, Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Fisheries Science with relevant experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the NGO sector, specifically practical field-level experience in livestock and agri-allied projects
  • Experience in goatery will be given preference
  • Experience in managing community cadres (Pashu Sakhis, VRPs, farmers) will be an added advantage
  • Good communication, training, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to stay and work in rural project locations
  • Should have a valid Driving License and own a bike
