The organisation is currently working directly with nearly a million of people across six different program operation locations besides a central management and coordination office at Kolkata. As a part of its aspirations and growth, Sabuj Sangha is launching a four year long integrated initiative in the Mainpat Block of Surguja district in Chhattisgarh.
About the position:
Sabuj Sangha is launching a project on sustainable socio-economic development of distressed non-arrived tribal communities in the hills & forest-based areas of Mainpat block under Surguja district of Chhattisgarh through integrated livelihood, natural resource management, education and health interventions. The Thematic Expert – Eco-tourism (TE – ET) will be in charge of implementation, management, monitoring and stakeholder engagement of the activities under Eco-tourism under the Holistic Rural Development Programme (HRDP) of Sabuj Sangha. S/he will ensure quality delivery of the Eco-tourism related activities and services to the best of satisfaction of the communities, its primary and secondary impact groups and the local government. TE – ET will ensure accomplishment of all committed activities, results & outcomes of ET activities in alignment with the action plan that has been approved by the donor.
The position will be responsible to create impacts on local women, girls and young people by transforming their lives. The person needs to ensure delivery of Eco-tourism (Livelihoods), Environment (waste management), Health & Sanitation related activities for and with the communities, Government, Care Givers and Service Providers in complete alignment with Sabuj Sangha, the donor’s mandates and in compliance with the Government guidelines. The person will join other team members under the project to represent Sabuj Sangha for strategic discussion and engagement with the Government and other important duty bearers.
Key responsibilities:
i. Shall act as the Focal Point and would be responsible for planning, designing, implementation and management of all activities under the Eco-tourism vertical of HRDP project.
ii. Prepare area and activity wise budget and cost-estimates of different activities under ET vertical, share it with the Programme Manager and Finance Coordinator to ensure uninterrupted delivery of the supplies as per the work plan.
iii. S/he will play instrumental role on identification of spots/ locations for construction, or renovation of the Eco-tourism centre and Home Stays in consultation with the villagers, local governance, block and district administration.
iv. Ensure renovation and beautification of existing huts with sanitation upgrades, landscaping, and eco-friendly improvements for home-stay promotion.
v. Develop community-managed individual home-stay units with basic infrastructure and hospitality support for eco-tourism.
vi. Establish eco-tourism centres with community participation, eco-friendly infrastructure, and visitor support services.
vii. Ensure installation of hybrid solar systems in selected home-stays for clean and reliable energy access.
viii. Ensure safety and tourism equipment to support camping, trekking, and sightseeing activities.
ix. Facilitate registration, compliance, and licensing processes for tourism and home-stay operations.
x. Promote rural tourism through branding, promotional materials, digital marketing, and tourism partnerships with the Department of State Tourism – Chhattisgarh Govt
xi. Establishment of waste management systems to promote cleanliness, recycling, and environmentally sustainable tourism.
xii. Organise skill development and certification of local youth on tourism, hospitality, and related livelihood opportunities.
xiii. Organise operational and maintenance support for eco-tourism centres and home-stay facilities to ensure sustainability and service quality.
xiv. S/he will be responsible for identification of families/ individuals as beneficiaries of the ET activities in consultation with the local government representatives and complete legal formalities in relation to that.
xv. S/he will work with the PM and FC of HRDP – Chhattisgarh for identification of vendors/ suppliers of materials for NRM activities, ensure supply of materials to all concerned locations for accomplishment of the tasks as desired,
xvi. Prepare work-plans in coordination with the Cluster Coordinators, village committees and Dept. of Tourism, inform the district & block authorities in advance for their engagement and support.
xvii. Will supervise, monitor progress of all ongoing activities, and expedite actions as required for timely completion of planned NRM activities.
xviii. Prepare monthly and quarterly progress reports and Financial Update and ensure their timely submission to the Programme Manager.
xix. Mobilize (10 -20)% of total funding requirement of the NRM activities through community contribution, donation of land, labour and Govt. engagement.
Education and work experience: Masters in Hotel/ Hospitality Management or Business Administration with minimum seven (7) years of experience of working in the Eco-tourism and related activities and management.
Skills and Competencies (work related):
• Experience in Project and budget management.
• Experience of working on Hotel/ Hospitality Industry, Human Resource Management / Eco-tourism
• Understanding on Governance structures at different level, their roles and responsibilities
• Experience in managing strategic relationship with Govt. and other allied institutions.
• Proven ability to communicate strategic thinking and long-term programmatic visions
• Patience and ability to pursue agenda with duty bearers at different levels
