About CSD
Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD) is a non-profit organization registered in 2009 under the Tamil Nadu Society Registration Act. CSD works in the areas of Eco-San sanitation, DEWATS (Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems), afforestation and biodiversity conservation, water access in schools and villages, and organic farming, in partnership with government bodies (DRDA-Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu Government), corporates (Hyundai Motor India Foundation), and international agencies (Sanitation First UK/India).
Position Summary
CSD is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to manage the organization's financial records, project-wise fund accounting, statutory compliance, and donor financial reporting. The Accountant will play a key role in ensuring transparent, accurate, and timely financial management across all CSD programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Commerce (B.Com/M.Com) or related field; professional certification (e.g., CA-Inter, ICWA-Inter) is an added advantage.
- Minimum 3 – 5 Years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in an NGO, CSR, or donor-funded project environment.
- Strong knowledge of Tally ERP / accounting software, MS Excel, and financial reporting tools.
- Working knowledge of NGO/Trust accounting, FCRA regulations, TDS, GST, and statutory compliance.
- Good communication skills in Tamil and English (mandatory).
- High level of integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality in handling financial data.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Maintain day-to-day books of accounts including cash, bank, journal, and ledger entries using Tally or other accounting software.
- Record project-wise and donor-wise income and expenditure accurately.
- Reconcile bank statements and maintain petty cash records.
- Assist in preparation of annual budgets and project-wise budget tracking.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and utilization certificates for donors and government agencies.
- Monitor budget vs. actual expenditure and flag variances to the Project Manager/Director.
- Ensure compliance with FCRA, Income Tax, TDS, GST, and other applicable statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with auditors for internal and statutory audits; prepare required schedules and documentation.
- Maintain compliance registers, filings, and renewals as per society/trust regulations.
- Process staff salaries, statutory deductions, and reimbursements in a timely manner.
- Verify and process vendor and contractor payments, ensuring proper documentation and approvals.
- Maintain organized financial records, vouchers, and supporting documents for audits and donor reviews.
- Support the Project Manager in preparing financial sections of donor reports and proposals.
- Assist during donor financial audits and due diligence reviews.

- Ability to manage multiple project accounts simultaneously.
