About YRG MERF
Established in 1993, YRGMERF is a leading non-governmental organisation in India dedicated to improving health outcomes through integrated healthcare, inclusive partnerships, and research-driven interventions. Guided by the principles of integrity and sustainability, the organisation addresses both immediate and emerging public health challenges, with a strong focus on prevention, care, support, and treatment—particularly in the area of HIV and other infectious diseases.

In India, the TIFA project aims to strengthen national health security through coordinated action across government systems and community stakeholders. This approach is designed to build a resilient ecosystem capable of detecting, preventing, and responding to emerging infectious disease threats.

As part of this initiative, a decentralised community-based surveillance model will be implemented, aligned with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)’s Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) framework. The model enables community platforms such as Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Mahila Arogya Samitis (MAS) to identify and report early warning signals using IHIP tools, thereby strengthening community ownership, improving early detection, and enabling timely public health response.

Role Overview
The Staff Nurse will play a key role in the field implementation of the project at the district level by supporting screening activities, managing school-based health logistics, and coordinating follow-up care for presumptive TB cases. The Nurse will work closely with students, families, school authorities, the Clinician, and government health services to ensure effective referral and documentation of clinical care pathways.

Screening and Field Coordination:
  • Assist in the organisation and execution of school-based TB symptom screening activities in coordination with the District Coordinator and Study Counsellors.
  • Support school and community-level visits, helping to conduct basic health checks and documenting symptom reports.
  • Identify students needing further clinical assessment and coordinate timely referral to the Clinician or public health facility.
Clinical and Nursing Support:
  • Assist the Clinician during field visits and clinical evaluations.
  • Provide basic nursing care and support during school screening events.
  • Ensure confidentiality, safety, and ethical conduct during student interactions.
  • Monitor and record symptoms, vitals (where needed), and referral outcomes.
Logistics and Follow-Up:
  • Coordinate with the Study Counsellor and community health workers to support follow-up of referred children.
  • Track referred cases for completion of diagnostic services and linkage to treatment, if applicable.
  • Support data documentation related to nursing services, referrals, and follow-up outcomes.
Capacity Building and Health Education:
  • Support student and parent sensitisation sessions on TB awareness, hygiene, and general health practices.
  • Assist in capacity building for field teams (ASHAs, ANMs) regarding TB symptoms and referral processes.
Requirements

Qualifications & Skills
  • Diploma or BSc in Nursing from a recognised institution.
  • Valid registration with the State Nursing Council.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in community health, school health programmes, or TB-related services is preferred.
  • Experience working with children/adolescents is desirable.
  • Familiarity with government health systems, especially NTEP/RBSK, is an asset.
  • Languages- Hindi and English (spoken and written); local dialects are an advantage
Desirable Attributes
  • Clinical knowledge of TB symptoms and basic nursing procedures.
  • Empathetic, child-sensitive approach with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong coordination and follow-up skills with school and health facility staff.
  • Based at the district site office, with regular field visits to schools and public health facilities.
Benefits

Benefits & Work Environment
  • 24 days of annual leave, in addition to public holidays.
  • Health insurance coverage
  • Opportunity to work in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Scope for learning and professional development.
